Two weeks later, while Alue was resting peacefully on the porch swing, fully aware that the male was still up and walking about inside his home. Her ears perked up however when the sound of the front door being shut and the semi- loud roar of the Jeep engine starting.
‘Hm…I wonder where he is off to this time?’ she thought to herself as she rested her head back down on her paws. Sterling was on his way once more to his parent’s home for Sunday dinner. It was unusual for his parents to stay in any one place for too long, so getting to spend time with them twice in one month was a real privilege. ‘She’ had been around now for two and a half months, looking better and better every time he saw her. Now it was almost on a daily basis. His porch swing was her seemingly favorite place to spend time as the sun set. While mid-morning he could see her basking in the sunlight at the edge of his grass property. Always in her wolf form, other than that first fleeting moment he saw this malnourished, dirty, long brown haired woman, struggling to get bacon out of the frying pan, he would almost think that ‘she’ was just a wolf that co-habituated his land. He had yet to tell his parents or anyone about her. There was no need. She wasn’t causing any trouble for him or anyone else. She always stayed out of sight when others were near walking on the recreational trails that ran through parts of the ravine or horseback riders. If there was one thing he could do for her it was let her live out her life in peace in whatever form she decided to be.
Alue rested peacefully, her mind calm as the gentle breeze induced the squeak of the chains on the swing and the ruffle of leaves on the trees around the east and west boundaries of the male’s property. Something however disturbed her peaceful slumber. The sound of vehicle she knew was not the male’s Jeep. Her senses told her that something was wrong and cautiously she jumped off the swing and silently padded off the porch and slunk to the shadows as she patrolled around the house to get a glance of the front yard, street, and driveway.
A blacked out 2012 Mercedes parked on the street, still running quietly, facing the opposite direction of a traditional parking spot, as if not expected to be their long. Two men (based on their stature and scent carried by the breeze) also dressed entirely in black with not a single bit of flesh showing hurried to the front door. One had out a shiny lock picking tool. The other held a laptop and connecting cords. Before Alue could think through what she could do or should do, the lock on the male’s front door was picked and they entered inside with stealthy proficiency.
‘No. No. No. No. No. No. They aren’t supposed to be in there. The male is away. His den…wait his home is at risk. I really have been a wolf for a while if I am calling a house a den now.' 'Focus Alue what are you going to do about them?’ She asked herself, well more like her wolf self told herself, to keep calm in situations, as she held still and silent in the shadows.
‘The male is not at risk for physical danger, why should I care if his stuff gets taken?’ she argued, as she felt her paws take slow but deliberate steps toward the front door. ‘He has been very nice to me these pass ten weeks and I’m stronger now than before. I could scare these intruders away and the male will never know the wiser.’ She told herself, feeling a surge of confidence now that her ribs barely showed and she had begun to get some light tone muscling on her form.
She crept up to the door and stood on her hind legs, grateful the male had a door handle instead of a door knob, so she could get in without changing. Now was the tricky part. She had to carefully pad across the hard wood floor and not let her nails click and give her position away. She followed the scent of the two male intruders and found them just down the hall from the kitchen in a room that held a computer and a shelf full of books and a printer/scanner. The other male was busy, fingers dancing across the keyboard of his laptop while it was linked to the male’s computer via cables.
