The rest of the day is filled with chores on the farm. Roman's mom doesn't expect me to do much and she tells me I can just relax and wait for everyone else to finish up. I refuse to do so and I go with Roman to every job he's given. The first being fixing up the porch swing. He gets out the tools he needs basically just a drill and screws. He grabs a ladder and stands to drill in the hooks for the swing to hang on. "Can you go grab, Grayson, please?" He asks screwing in the last hook.
I nod and make my way inside to see Grayson helping his mom cook. I walk over to him. "Hey, can you come help, Roman?" He looks me up and down with a stern look and sighs.
He starts walking towards the front porch. I quickly follow close behind him. "What do you need, Ro?" He asks crossing his arms.
Roman smiles down at him and points to the swing. "Help string that up would you?" He asks and Grayson nods grabbing a chair and standing on it lifting the swing with Roman. They hang the swing up and both smile at each other feeling accomplished. Grayson nods at me before walking back inside the house to continue his work with his mom. "You want to do the honors?" Roman asks me stepping down the ladder.
"Sit on it?" I ask looking at him worriedly. He nods at me. "What if it falls? Are you sure it's sturdy?"
He chuckles. "Virgil trust me this isn't my first rodeo. Sit." He says sitting down and patting the space next to him. I hesitantly sit next to him. He puts his arm around me and I instinctively nuzzle into his shoulder. "Comfortable?" He asks giggling. I nod with a yawn. I slowly close my eyes and bury myself deeper into him.
When I wake up I'm in a car. I look around frantically. I look at Roman and sigh a bit of relief. "Where are we going?" I ask looking outside.
"To the store to pick up last-minute presents and food for Christmas tomorrow." He says pulling into a Walmart parking lot.
"Is Grayson homophobic?" I blurt out without thinking as Roman puts his car in park.
He looks at me with a shocked expression on his face. "No, why would you ever think that?" He asks looking at me.
"Well, I may be overthinking this but he's not been the biggest fan of me since I've arrived. He kinda seems hesitant at the thought of us together and he gave me a dirty look earlier."
Roman ponders this over for a minute. "He's a teenager, anger issues, nothing to worry about." He says trying to reassure me but I continue to have that unsure feeling about him.
