This Isn't A Date

Will POV

Waiting.

One of the most agonizing activities known to man.

I'd consider myself a patient person but right now, in this moment, I can't sit still. Like most demigods, I have ADHD but not as severely as others might. Yet for some reason, it's decided to show itself in small ways such as my fingertips drumming against the frame of my bottom bunk or my knee bouncing up and down anxiously. I glance at the clock on the wall.

5:47

I knew that.

It'd said 5:47 when I'd looked at it eighteen seconds ago too.

"You know, Will, by the way you're staring at that clock, I'm surprised it hasn't burst into flames yet." Kayla jokes. I turn towards her with a threatening glare. She puts her hands up in surrender.

"Hey, I'm just telling the truth!" She states with a grin. "Time will happen all on its own. Soon enough, it'll be time for your date. On wait no, 'hang out'." She smirks.

I roll my eyes, wishing I had the courage to call it a date when I'd asked him. I let out a sigh and motion her out. She once again puts her hands up in surrender, before leaving the cabin. I stand up and decide to stretch out my limbs to release some tension.

I don't really know how it happened, but now I'm running.

The wind is blowing comfortably through my hair and I make it around the camp border twice before the stabbing pain in my joints becomes too much to continue on. I gradually slow myself down, breathing in deeply with my hands on the back of my head.

The sun is resting just atop the horizon which means it's about six o'clock. I take that as a sign to get ready so I make my way to the showers to clean off.

Once I finish drying myself, I rush over to my cabin and put on some light brown khakis, a darkish yellow T-shirt, and a thin plaid button up, leaving it open.

I take one last look at the clock.

6:40

It's time.

On my way to Hades cabin, I try to push out the thoughts tugging at the back of my mind. What if he thinks you're weird? What if you're too old for him? After all, he's fourteen and your fifteen. You're the same age as Monique. They hold a great friendship. How about you and Nico? I shut them out and give a knock to the Hades Cabin door.

Silence.

I hear the unlocking of the door and it opens to reveal the son of Hades in all his glory, looking amazing as always. Black skinny jeans, a beanie, and... short sleeves? That's a first without a jacket to cover.

"Wow, Nico. You look great! Though, uh, short sleeves are a bit bold for you, don't you think?" I joke. He blushes and rolls his eyes, putting his hand on his other wrist. At this, his eyes widen and he slams the door in my face.

"Be back in a sec!" He yells and my demeanor instantly plummets. Did I say something wrong? What happened?

Nico POV

"Be back in a sec!" I yell toward the door. At this, Monique bursts out of the bathroom, slamming the door behind her. She turns back toward the door for a few seconds before turning her focus back to me in a questioning look. Peeking behind her, the door knob is now stone, sealing in Jason and Piper.

"What was that?" She whisper yells. I gesture towards my exposed wrists. She makes an "oh" with her mouth and frantically looks around the room before her eyes land on her own wrists. On them lay several bracelets, some black, white, purple, green, blue, and some are straight up rubber bands.

She furiously pulls them off, revealing scars up and down her own forearms. My eyes widen as she puts the bracelets on my scars. I gesture toward her wrists.

"Huh? Oh! Uh, would you believe it if I told you I was still on my life high and/or that these were old?" She asks. I then gesture towards the red ones. She's gives a big sigh, rolling her eyes. "Okay ish. Old-ish!"

"We're talking about this!" I order, whispering.

"No! You have a date with blondie out there!" She whispers back.

"Then we're talking about this later!" I demand. She finally gives.

"Alright, alright. Now go!" She ushers me towards the door but I turn around.

"What about Jason and Piper?" I ask.

"What about Jason and Piper?" She demands. I make another panicky gesture towards her wrists. She mutters an Ancient Greek curse under her breath, looking around once more before heading into my closet and taking down a Panic! at the Disco jacket and sliding it on.

"I let you borrow this for one day and I never got it back!" She whispers with a pointed glare.

"I don't even know who they are!" I whisper-yell back.

"Well, I'm pretty sure the leader of the band is, like, a scumbag or something, so good thing you didn't get obsessed early, 'cause now I'm trying to stop listening to them, right? But it's weird 'cause I sort of felt this connection to some of their lyrics and the songs were just good in general, you know? They were the only newer music I found myself liking, so I'm really going to miss listening to them, but being supportive of a scumbag just doesn't feel right, so on second thought maybe I don't want this jacket bac-"

"Monique!" I hiss at her.

"What?!" She hisses back with the same energy. I gesture behind me at the door and she makes an "o" with her mouth and blushes slightly. "Right, sorry. Shutting up. Going in the bathroom. Have fun!" With that, she turns herself back to the bathroom, turning the knob back to metal on contact, and shuts herself in. I then re-open the front door to see Will standing there, all awkward and adorable.

"I'm ready to go." I say, with more enthusiasm than I'd meant for. He smiles and makes a reach for my hand before pausing, maybe thinking better of it.

"C'mon, there's something I want to show you."

"Where are we-"

I can't finish as he grabs my hand and rushes through trees.

This is going to be interesting.
