"I swear if I have to yell 'Hey!' one more time I'm going to kill-"

"Hello everyone this is the PD, we are starting the showcase rehearsal if 2team can come up to the stage to test mics and run through their set," the PD's loud voice made everyone's brains rattle in their skulls.

Kenna straightened up her posture and put on a bright face for the cameras and got ready for the stage.

The rehearsal for the girls seemed to go on without a hitch and things looked promising for both groups ignoring Jisung's mic incident.

The time finally came for the real performance. Every trainee had practiced so much that their limbs no longer burned even has their chests heaved. The low lights were blinding in their own menacing way and the air felt uncomfortably thick. Kenna was so nervous that she couldn't even shake. As the trainees shuffled around backstage with no destination in mind in an uncomfortable silence in comparison to the buzzing audience, Kenna and Chris crossed paths.

They faced each other and as they made eye contact, it felt as though time and space itself had slowed around them. They disregarded the cameras, bumped their foreheads, and intertwined their fingers.

"No matter what happens, in whatever way we can, we're gonna stick together," Kenna stated, but Chris knew it was more of a question in need of reassurance.

"No matter what happens," he reassured. They separated and gave each other a bright smile, deceiving the inner conflict that both were feeling.

Then it was time to go on stage.

She could feel hundreds of pairs of eyes burning into her and she came across an important realization. A wave of calm washed over her, and she was at peace for once in her trainee career.

She gave her performance her all plus a little extra. She knew that her hair flips weren't as majestic as Yeji's. She knew that her smile wasn't as bright as Mashiro's. She knew that her moves weren't as precise as Ryujin's.

But she also knew that there were people in the crowd cheering for her, and her best friend was watching her with pride.

Her performance was fierce, but her heart was at ease.

It seems as though Chris was the only one who truly noticed that everyone's attention seemed to be so drawn to her, that the cameras kept wandering to her even when it wasn't her part, that the crowd was mesmerized to near silence.

Something had changed within her, but he didn't know why.

As their performance came to an end and the girls filed off stage, Kenna gave Chris a small smile and soundlessly mouthed:

"No matter what happens"

No matter what happens

No matter the test

When we stay together

We're both at our best

I guess this was a long time coming, huh? Well college is a binch my dudes.
