The school day had started out slow, my morning classes had dragged by and I am now starving. Mother had made breakfast this morning but I was not in the mood to eat. I tend to get in those moods that when I wake up in the morning I don't want to move and I don't want to eat. Sometimes I lie in bed and just think about everything.
I am sure that it is not healthy but sometimes, I wonder how it is that I am able to get up in the morning. Most people who have gone through what I have, wouldn't get out of bed ever again.
I am ripped from my thoughts as I am tapped on the shoulder. I turn to see Amelia standing behind me and smile. "Hey, What's up?"
"I was just wondering why you are standing here when you could be sitting with me and my friends." I am surprised by her invitation, most people left me to sit alone during lunch and I would just text Jessie or think to myself about home.
"Sure, I guess, I didn't even see you when I came in," I say as she takes my free hand and drags me towards a table in the center of the cafeteria. There are three other girls sitting at the table, two very skimpy brunettes and a blonde. I have seen the blonde around the school with her, this must be her "besty".
I have to scoff at my own thoughts. I sound like a stereotyping, slut-shaming, asshole.
"Hey, girls, this is Hayden." I look around the table as their eyes all fall on me. I watch the blonde as she scans me with her eyes. We meet eyes and she realizes that I know what she is doing.
"Hey there, Hayden." The blonde says and I feel my eye twitch as I hear the seduction enter her voice. I do not want to have Amelia's friends try to seduce me.
"Britanny, knock it off." Amelia laughs and Britanny just keeps her eyes on me, appreciating my presence. I smirk and sit my tray down, finding that I might just be able to have some fun.
"Are you checking me out, Britanny?" I let my voice become a little husky and I could see Amelia looking over at me with a perplexed expression. I chuckle slightly, believing that Amelia might just have a little crush on me. Her face has a light flush as she looks at the floor and I turn my attention back to Britanny.
"Well, you're hot, Amelia has always had a thing for the bad boys. I didn't think she would ever bring one to the table though." I can feel the bitchness radiating off of her. I do not like the way she is openly speaking about Amelia's feelings. She has a smirk peeling across her face and I simply smile.
"Well I am sorry, but you will have to only admire the view because I am gay." All of their jaws drop and I chuckle, sitting back as Amelia sits down next to me. She wears the surprise just like everyone else. She starts laughing and I turn to see that there is a relieved expression on her face.
"Thank god, I thought maybe you thought I was ugly or something." We both laugh and Britanny just watches shocked. She couldn't wrap her brain around the idea that I like men.
"Didn't you hear Jake calling me all of those names. Most people are aware that I am gay, I don't know how, but they do." I continue and Amelia becomes thoughtful, recalling the altercation the other day.
"I guess he does, but knowing Jake, that is his go-to remark."
I wonder how long she has known Jake?
"Anyway, Have you seen that freaky new girl wandering around? She is such a freak." Britanny says and I can't help but the grimace at her insulting of another student. I brush it off though, trying to make some new friends so Jessie won't be so worried about me.
"No, I haven't seen her yet. Why do you think she is a freak?" Amelia was listening as the two girls in her clique start to talk about this girl.
"I thought I saw track marks on her arm. She is probably some sort of junkie." The girls begin to laugh and I open my mouth to protest when my phone begins to ring. I take my phone from my pocket and see Jessie's name, becoming worried. I click accept on my screen and start to question her.
