The day of the party was a very important day to Daniel Middleton. That day was when he would learn more about Rosie and would meet the boy who change his life forever.

He had no clue that a simple girl from a record store would have this much affect over him but, yet here he was walking to pick Rosie up wearing a brand new striped tee shirt he bought hoping she would like.

Damn Middleton you have no clue the storm you're brewing up.

When he laid his eyes on Rosie for the second time, through the store window he was too afraid to interrupt her. She was dancing to the soft sound of Nirvana, her arms placed above her head.

To Daniel she looked like an angel and to Rosie he looked like a creep.

"Middleton! You gonna come in or what?" Rosie yelled at him breaking his stare.

"Oh uh yeah." Dan shoved his hands in his jeans and walked towards the girl.

"You look great Rosie." Daniel, poorly, tried to make his move but, he couldn't look anywhere but her legs.

She was wearing a white tank top that perfectly contrasted her tan skin and a pair of high waisted jean shorts that showed off her bare legs. Her black doc martens set her apart from the other girls and Daniel loved it.

"Thanks Dan. I like your shirt." She told him walking up to him and popping his collar.

When her chest touched his sparks erupted in Daniels heart. He had hopped she didn't noticed his irregular breathing but, to Daniels dismay, she had.

Rosie has never met someone she had this affect over and she planned to use it to her advantage.

She looked Daniel right in the eyes and batted her long lashes. Dan was glad he bought the shirt and he was extremely glad his aunt made him buy a new record.

"You smell like cotton candy." Rosie whispered, her hands still on his collar and her chest still on his.

She stood on her tip toes and quietly whispered in his ear, "I love cotton candy."

She ran her hands down his arms and swiftly put her hands in his. She pulled him out of the store and just like that they were off.

They walked, hand in hand, to the party Rosie leading the way. At first it was silent that, was until Daniel asked the question that started it all.

"Why don't you want to go to the party alone?"

Rosie was hesitant to tell Daniel about her past but, if she wanted to gain trust with Middleton she knew she had to. "Have you ever heard of Hunter Strawberry?"

Daniel shook his head.

"Well he kinda broke my heart. And every time I see him he yells at me. God he's the one that broke up with me." Rosie vented to Daniel, letting all her anger out.

"Last party I went to he kinda went overboard and got us kicked out. If he's gonna be at this party I just don't feel comfortable being by myself."

A silence fell between them as Rosie tightened her grip on Daniels hand. Dan was angry that anyone would break Rosie's heart and at that moment promised himself that he would always be there for her.

Maybe it's the fact that he fell so hard so quick that lead to his downfall or maybe it was his decision to fall for Rosemary Griffin but, whatever it was it changed him that summer.

She changed him that summer.

"I'm sorry to hear that." Dan tried to comfort her.

"It's ok. I like you way better than Hunter anyways." Rosie pulled Dan closer to her.

Dan turned as red as a tomato and it wasn't because of the sun. Rosie looked up at him and smiled thinking he looked cute with his cheeks flushed.

After a while they eventually made it to the party. When they walked in Rosie knew exactly where to go but Daniel, he was a lost cause.

"Here." She shoved a red cup filled with alcohol into his hands. He took a small sip before, deciding that he didn't like it.

"I'm gonna go get high." Rosie said bluntly. "Wanna come?"

"Oh uh no. I'm good." Dan responded nervously.

"Ok. Keep your cute butt here then Middleton." Rosie flirted and walked away to go find some weed.

Daniel once again blushed and took a small sip of the bitter alcohol. He waited a few minutes before deciding to walk around.

A summerbird attempted to make conversation with Daniel but, as I said, before he was a lost cause.

The sound of a loud car engine filled the party as a wondering Dan made its way outside.

"Hey, there you are." Rosie caught up to Daniel a joint in her hand. She brought it up to her lips and took a long drag, letting the smoke fill her throat and lungs.

Daniel thought she looked hot when she did that. Hell Daniel thought she looked hot when she did anything.

"Hey." He smiles at her, this time it was Rosie's turn to blush. "Who's that?" Daniel wondered as the boy walked out of he car whose loud engine filled the party only seconds prior.

When Rosie turned to look at the boy her face turned pale. "Shit."

She reached for Daniels hand looping it with hers and pulling him close. While Dan was too busy glancing down at the nervous girl the boy was making his way over to them.

"Rosie Griffin. Well I'll be damned." The boy told them swagger practically dripping off his tongue.

"Hunter. Always a pleasure."

Daniels red cheeks turned suddenly pale as he finally met the infamous Hunter Strawberry.

It was 96 degrees that summer day and Hunter didn't break a sweat. Daniel was more than intimidated by him.

"Who's this." He nodded towards a nervous Daniel. Rosie noticed his shift in mood and pulled him even closer, if that was even possible.

"This is Daniel Middleton. He's a summerbird."

"Well uh kinda. Not really though, it's complicated." Daniel tried to explain his situation but, his nerves got the best of him. Wouldn't be the last time this happened over the summer.

"Well Danny, good luck with her." Hunter said as his cigarette bounced in between his lips. He pushed through the two of them and kept walking his way pretending like seeing Rosie with another guy didn't bother him.

Later that summer we all come to realize that it did bother him and it bothered him a lot. Hunter was still madly in love with Rosemary Dawn Griffin whether he liked it or not. Rosie hates that asshole but, still found herself gravitated towards him.

Man, these townies are really hormonal.

"What an ass." Rosie complained.

"Geez, you didn't tell me your ex was a fucking model." Dan joked.

Rosie rolled her eyes and pulled on Dans arm.

"Come on, let's get some cheeseburgers."
