Amberkit sat silently in the nursery, her amber gaze firmly affixed to the ground in front of her paws. Outside she heard Reedkit and Fawnkit playing around, she wondered if they had moved on from Sagekit. The rustle of someone entering the den made Amberkit look up, Leaftail stood there, a warm smile on her face but not in her eyes.

"Amberkit, little one, you should go play with your siblings."

Leaftail cooed, trying to sound like her usual upbeat self, but failing. The tabby kit shook her head no, looking away from her mother to stare at the den wall. Amberkit felt her mother's gaze linger on her for a moment longer before the rustle of the den entrance sounded again, and Leaftail was gone.

Amberkit sighed, standing up to leave the nursery for some water. She faced Stripedkit, who was standing at the nursery entrance, a stern look on his features. The tom's large frame blocked Amberkit from leaving the nursery.

"Excuse me, Stripedkit, can I get by?"

Stripedkit's gaze remained steady but he shook his head no.

"We need to talk."

"What about?"

Amberkit sneered.

"You've been dismissive to everyone for a moon, Amberkit, I'm worried."

The tabby kit pinned her ears to her head with a snarl.

"Why should we talk about it. You wouldn't understand."

Stripedkit lowered his head.

"No...I wouldn't but I thought-"

"No, you didn't think, Stripedkit. Move."

Amberkit hissed before shoving past her friend and stalking over to the fresh kill pile. She grabbed a vole tightly in her jaws, her teeth sinking into it's flesh. The tabby cat whipped around and went back to the nursery. She entered, exasperated to find Fawnkit standing in there waiting for her.

"I don't need to talk-"

Amberkit started, dropping the vole, before Fawnkit rushed at her and place her head on her shoulder.

"I do..."

She whispered, her sadness echoed dully in her voice. Amberkit felt a jolt of empathy, feeling a sad cry build in her throat.
