The next day promised rain. The collage was giving the students a break so Katie worked on her tech. That afternoon, it started to rain and lightning. But later, when Ember was supposed to come back she never did. She was getting ready to call Laura when something on the news caught her attention.
"Earlier today a storm broke out and lightning filled the sky. For the students of the local middle school, three bolts of lightning struck. One struck a girl and another two struck the school that which then caught fire. Seventh grader Ebony Clark was unable to get out in time. She was rushed to the hospital along with Lizzy Iverson who was struck by lighting. This is Ashley Miller reporting for eye witness new".
Katie stared at the TV in shock. "I was going to tell you" came Laura's voice from the door way. Katie nodded blankly.
Days later, Laura and Katie went to visit their friend in the hospital. They entered to see a nurse standing next to the bed with Ember unconscious. "She's been in a coma" the nurse said as they walked in. "Will she live" Laura asked. The nurse shook her head. "I don't know". The nurse left and the two stood, unable to bring themselves to say anything. At that moment, a tall girl walked in. She put her hand to Embers head a whispered something. Ember sat bolt upright, gasping. Her eyes were wild and fearful and she whimpered. Katie rushed over and started comforting her. After she calmed down, the new girl sat down beside her. "what happened" she asked. "There was a lady. Big, red, and Scarry. She threw fire at me, but a beam fell and it never hit me directly" Ember explained. The girl muttered something Katie barely caught. "Wildfire". "I'm sorry, who are you?" Laura asked. "That's not of importance right now, Laura" the girl replied. Laura eye brows shot up. The girl put her hand to Embers for head again and all tension and signs of weakness vanished. The nurse walked in and saw Ember. "Alright ladies. Move. Please leave the room".
The three of them stood outside and waited. " Again, who are you? What did you do to her?" Laura demanded. "I will explain everything in in a minute. Then Ember walked out. "I'm free to go" she said. "Follow me" the new girl said.
