"Subject 539," she said in a clear voice, "your performance today was... dissatisfactory." Miley looked up and opened her mouth to argue, but clamped it shut and stared back at the floor after meeting the woman's eyes. "You must learn to do as we tell you. Some say the best way to get positive results is rewarding good behavior." Miley looked hopeful for a split second. "I disagree. I believe good behavior should be expected and bad behavior should be punished." Summer's heart was racing. She wanted nothing more than to bust in and run out with Miley, but she knew if she did they'd be caught. The woman pressed a few buttons on a panel outside the cell and a small section of the door slid open. Miley immediately crossed to the opening and stuck her wrist through, still looking down. The woman began to fiddle with controls on a silver bracelet Miley was wearing. Miley took a shaky breath, knowing what was about to happen. The hand at her side was clenched tight in a shaking fist, not from anger, but fear. The woman finished what she was doing and stepped back, a cruel smile on her face. Miley looked at the bracelet in confusion.
"It's a new setting. There's an adjustable delay so you never know when it'll start." Miley stepped backwards and stared at the bracelet in sheer terror. Her hand were shaking and her breathing was shallow and rapid. The woman chuckled and walked away. Miley stood frozen for a moment before jolts of pain washed over her body. She let out a cry of pain before clenching her teeth and sinking to her knees. She was struggling to breathe, struggling to keep her claws away from her skin, struggling to think. She couldn't tell how much time was passing but the pain became to much. She gave up on trying and let herself sob, let her claws tear through the barely healed skin, and gave up on trying to think because she couldn't. The pain was so overwhelming that she couldn't even feel it when Summer pulled her into her arms. She only knew she was there because she heard her whispering in her ear.
Summer held her close and whispered comfort to her until the pain stopped. She held her even when there was just tears and sobs. Miley finally caught her breath and looked up at Summer through her tears. Summer smiled at her and wiped her tears away, and somehow Miley grinned through everything. She threw her arms around Summer and pulled herself into her lap. Summer laughed and tightened her embrace. They were finally back together.
