As Joan finalized her words with a frown, Cervato felt as if she had been punched in the chest. Saromire's brother, Collyn, had informed the 'bear girl' that Saromire's passion in crafting the legacy sword of the Lancastir family had been the start of his downfall. Dry. Her throat felt as if it was going to collapse in on itself. Even to this day, she could never forget the warm gaze and heartfelt dimpled smile as he proudly declared he had split what he had forged so far, into two. When he had bestowed upon her the shimmering blade, this action had triggered a dark magic to consume the man. Quickly, her thoughts rushed over Saromire's explanation within her office. When he had stated that forging two blades from the one had been a mistake. Was this what he had meant?
Heat. Why was it always Saromire that ignited the magic that began to implode upon itself, her body the catalyst for raw, chaotic magic she had no hopes yet of controlling? Fury. Her anger. How dare the Lord just simply walk back into her life without so much as mentioning this? A liar. Calling her a friend when he had not even admitted this to her. And here, Joan and Ti'lay bore witness to her rage boiling forth. Ti'lay's hands retracted from Cervato's armor, as it rapidly began to heat along with her body temperature. In her mind she could think nothing but of the man, causing her to tremble in anger.
However, how had she not noticed the change? The nightmares? The sickness? The pain? Or was Saromire trying to be strong in not displaying that which ailed him? And if he did, how could she even blame him when she had done the same to him without revealing her intentions?
As Joan left, and Ti'lay's words of promising to come see her later lingered in her mind, Cervato made her way to her bedroom. Upon the door, a letter tucked between the door and threshold. Hollow eyes drifted over the parchment, after quickly tearing through the wax seal. His neat handwriting, apologizing for the outburst the other evening when he had learned the truth, and promising that it was fine with him. That he was fine.
The letter crumpled easily enough into her clenched fist as she entered her living quarters. Atreyu was gone from the bedroom, which only made the unease in her heart flicker with anxiety. The letter fell from her hand as she walked over to her bed. Slowly, the woman removed her gauntlets and boots, yet when her fingers found the fastener of the belt that kept her blades at her hips, she looked upon the terrible sword that Saromire had requested she wield once again. He pleaded with her to do so, so that eventually the twin swords would reunite once more. Quickly, the buckle was loosened, and both swords fell carelessly to the floor. Immediately, her armor was stripped from her form as she turned to face the edge of her bed.
When was the last time she had truly prayed? Hadn't it been in the Shrine of the Six? To Kormir? Vaguely recalling Atreyu standing at her side through the ordeal she had silently asked Kormir to help her make one of the most difficult choices of her life.
The woman dropped to her knees, leaning her elbows on the edge of her mattress as her hands clasped together tightly. They shook as her head bowed.
Dwayna, please, give unto your child your healing hand. Take away this illness that consumes his soul. Only you have the power to destroy such magic. Merciful Melandru, please see it within your plan to guide him past this trial, his legacy to continue on. Kormir, help uncloud our minds to see the truth of the matter. A cure. Balthazar, may your relentless fires encourage him to strive on, to not be defeated by this. Lyssa, may your fortune be with him and assist him in beating the odds. Find it within your heart to give him more time. And Grenth....please.....please....
"Please...." Warm tears spilled over her cheeks from her eyes, dripping onto the dark satin comforter. Once more, her entire body trembled in place. Out of fear.
"They said he has two full Seasons at best....and it's already been half that time."
Please don't take him away.....not yet.....
