Hey kiddo." Tony said as you approached the car.
"Hey dad." You said, throwing you stuff in the back. He starts it up and starts driving out of the school parking lot. You stared out the window for a long while, until he pipes up.
"You're school called me today." He said. "They said you got beat up at lunch."
"Yeah, I did." You said.
"And they were screaming slurs and threats at you." He said.
"Yeah."
"One of which was 'tr*nny f*g'." He said. "Now, we both know that I'm gonna sue the shit out of them and their parents, even pull fists if I have to."
You smile. "I know dad."
"But is there something you want to tell me?" He asks. "You don't have to say it yet, I can wait for a few days, months, years if you want."
You shut your eyes, collecting your breath. "I'm..I'm transgender." You said.
"Ok."
"And I've been thinking about it since beginning of eight grade." You said. "I didn't want to tell you because I thought you'd hate me for it and kick me out."
"Kick you out? Hate you?" He asks. "[girl's name], you're my child. I wouldn't ever hate you. I love you to death. I just wish you would've told me a bit sooner."
"Why?"
"I could've bought you the stuff you needed." He said. "Binders, testosterone and gender therapy, even top and bottom surgery if you wanted to do it before eighteen. And I wish I knew your correct pronouns and name before calling you 'she' and 'her' and '[girl's name]'."
He pulls into the driveway of Stark Industries. Tears start to flow down your face. "Don't cry." He says, pulling you into a hug. "It's ok. I love you no matter what- whether you were cis, trans, non-binary, gender queer, or anything else. I don't care about that. What I care about is your health and well-being. If something is wrong, or you need to tell me something, you have to tell me. I can't read minds."
You sob into his shoulder. "I love you dad.." You whimper. He smiles.
"I love you too, kiddo." He says. "I always will."
