*The girl I added a picture of is how I imagine Adeline*

"Let me go! I'm fine!" I scream, thrashing around as a group of medics lead me into an ambulance. I look over to my mother during this spur of chaos. She is standing with her arms crossed, uncomfortable, like she doesn't want to be here. I can see her looking down with, what would you call it, pain, pity, plastered on her face covering her typical smile that would light up the room. I continue to flail my weak body around as I'm being shoved against the cold gurney. I shiver in the cool winter night air. I never really got cold before any of this happened, but I guess this is just a side effect. I never meant for any of this to happen. I thought I could stop. No, I told myself I could stop. I was in control. I had the power. But did I?

"Hope!" my friend, Adeline, calls from down the hall as she rushes toward me.
Adeline Rogers, the sweetest and kindest girl you may ever meet, even though she may not come off that way. She's my best friend. We're perfect for each other because opposites attract. Adeline is on the more popular side. She is the top field hockey player and talks to just about everyone. I am my socially awkward, doesn't want to leave my house self. Everyone knows me as Adeline's friend, nothing more. You would probably think it sucks living in my friends shadow, but it doesn't bother me. Adeline has ombre, thick hair that she curls. She's drop dead gorgeous. I understand why guys always ask her out even though they don't know her. She always has her makeup done flawlessly, yet she manages to look natural. She has the vintage, trendy style that everyone loves at the moment. I guess you could describe her as a hipster.
"Adeline!" I reply as I slam my locker.
"We still on for tomorrow?" She asks as she scrolls through her phone, occasionally glancing up to see where she is walking.
"Yep. Can't wait to show all of the school my body in a swimsuit," I tease.
"Oh come on! It'll be fun, trust me. You never put yourself out there. Tomorrow morning we are going shopping to get a cute new bikini for the party. You never know, maybe Flynn will be at the party."
Flynn Williams, the cliche star quarterback that everyone has a crush on. Everything about him screams, "I HAVE NO INDIVIDUALITY AND I LOOK JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER 17 YEAR OLD ON THE PLANET!" You know what I'm talking about. The light brown hair that is shaved at the sides, but flicks up at the top. He's muscular, obviously, being that he is our school's quarterback. This is why Adeline and I make jokes about liking him. You could say we're making fun of every desperate girl at our school being madly in love with this f-boy.
I roll my eyes at the statement. "First of all, I will not be caught dead in a bikini. Second, Flynn doesn't even know of my existence."
"Oh sure he does. Remember the time you played the drum set for the chorus concert? He told you he thought you were good!"
"Yeah, but he then proceeded to ask me what my name was." I roll my eyes, again.
"Whatever. At least I got you out of your house for once."
"True."
"I'll see you at lunch. You better have a lunch today or I will shove food down your tiny little throat." Adeline says aggressively, but then adds a sweet little, "Bye!" to sound innocent.
I walk to first period as usual. I'm like a machine, programmed to go to all my classes, go to band practice, go to figure skating, then sleep. It's a repeated cycle that I put myself on, well, more my parents forced upon me. The only reason I even play the drum is because of a lot of painstaking hours of pleading. Drum line is the place I made my best friends, the place I can go to escape everything life throws at me. Yeah, life's not all a high school musical where everyone has no problems. High school freaking sucks.
