Summary: Liu Yan, formerly Gong Yuehan, grew up in a conservative household that favors her younger brother. She was left behind when bandits raided their rural village one summer night. Yan had a new start in life when she became the adoptive daughter of Liu Bei and practiced martial arts with him the moment her interest grew.
Yan's skills have prepared her for the first battle during the anti-Dong Zhuo coalition era, which marked the beginning of her path as a warrior. Following Liu Bei and the rest closely as they fight to structure Shu as a nation, Yan participated in various other battles- Changban, Chibi, Chengdu etc. Amidst the chaos, she got to meet her significant other, Zhao Yun and had a son together. Her life on the battlefield lasted until the final fight at Jieting.
Personality:
> Yan's true character should be goofy and mellow, but her introverted nature and childhood neglect caused her to appear weary or indifferent in front of new faces. It takes time for her to trust others; She only opens up and be chatty when people involve her more.
> Determined and focused. Ever since her involvement with martial arts, she intend to become a great warrior. She simply thinks it's cool, also because that's her own way to show the ones who gave up on her that she's thriving now.
> Frees spirited, Yan works hard and plays hard. Growing up, she had always been playful and curious. Her desire of venturing to the outside world led her to join Gongsun Zan, earning knowledge and enjoyment. However, initially she wasn't taken seriously by subordinates due to being excessively carefree; Another reason that contributed to her goal. Partly she wanted to earn the respect of both enemies and allies, another part due to pettiness.
> Typical over thinker and insecure, Yan is plagued by feelings of inadequacy and not worthy of love, especially towards Yun. These resulted in her acting withdrawn and passive-aggressive on occasions. She's aware and working on it though.
> Isn't fond of dwelling in the sad parts of her past, more like she's trying to suppress and refuse to acknowledge the pain. To Yan, when the damage is done then there is no turning back, quite unforgiving. She has a strong dislike for whenever her background is brought up, she doesn't want to have anything to do with her biological family anymore.
> Normally displaying calmness, Yan becomes wild mannered when provoked/mocked- especially when using her past and insecurities. She got into fights due to that, but eventually learned her emotionally driven actions are damaging even to the innocents. Currently she is still in the process of letting go of that grudge.
