Fawnpaw stretched out her muscles and padded through the lichen into the camp.
She gazed around at her clan proudly.
She saw her sisters walking out the apprentices den.
Rosepaw looked alright and ready, and ran up to Thistlepaw, entwining their tails.
Brightpaw moved slower, dragging her feet slightly, her gaze clouded with feeling Fawnpaw could not understand.
Her older sister gazed at Rosepaw and Thistlepaw as they walked away, but she looked distant, not really paying attention to what was around her.
Fawnpaw had begun to realise how tired and sloppy her sister had been getting.
She narrowed her eyes but pushed it away.
She padded up to Brightpaw and nudged her awake.
Her sister turned to look at her, blinking slowly.
"Wake up mouse brain" she whispered.
"Huh?" Brightpaw groaned.
"Where have you been at all hours to make you this tired" she hissed.
Brightpaw looked confused for a moment, "no where"
"I can tell your lying" Fawnpaw pointed out.
Brightpaw looked around slowly, her gaze seemed to brighten slightly, "follow me" she whispered, disappearing out the entrance.
Fawnpaw padded rapidly behind her sister, shocking at how easily Brightpaw could weave through the undergrowth, so quietly, and scarcely seen, despite her bright coat.
They stopped by the dead oak near the Shadowclan border.
Brightpaw lay down, her eyes alive now.
Fawnpaw opened her mouth to taste the air, and was hit with the stench of Shadowclan.
She gagged as the scent flooded into her throat.
"Is she okay?"
Fawnpaw spun around in shock to see a stocky Shadowclan apprentice sitting on the other side of the border.
Her mouth dropped open in shock as she looked from this stranger to her sister.
Brightpaw stood up and padded over to him, stopping a few paw steps from the border, touching her muzzle to his in greeting.
"What?!" Fawnpaw cried out.
Brightpaw slapped her tail over her mouth.
"Be quiet!" She pleaded.
Fawnpaw nodded her head slowly, narrowing her eyes at the Shadowclan cat.
Brightpaw cautiously removed her tail and sat down.
"How do you know him?" She asked.
"I met him in the battle" Brightpaw looked at him, their eyes holding the others.
Fawnpaw studied them, Brightpaw looked nervous at her gaze, shifting her paws, but Shadowpaw held her eyes, staring back with as much intensity.
Fawnpaw sighed, "nice to meet you" she got out finally.
Brightpaws eyes lit up with hope, and she smiled.
