Alründ:
The first stars of the moon shower shot across the Lyrethian sky. Alründ was reminded of fireworks, but there was no crackle or pop in the sky like there had been when he'd danced with Ash. Tonight, they were just stars. Then again, he did love stars. One in particular.
Fate, I miss her.
Alründ gripped his head, still clutching the star pendant he'd made for her—the one Lücan had returned not more than a minute ago, when the head Sepheri had stormed from the astronomy tower, leaving Alründ standing alone in the ancient glass dome. He wondered if Ash had figured out the inscription before Lücan had taken it away, or if she knew the twine necklace had been woven from the ivy vines in his hair. She'd requested a strand of it once, then her memory had been wiped. Again. Giving her that necklace had been a way to fulfil that promise, a way to hold on. Lücan's lecture had just put an end to that dream.
I can't survive three months stranded here, not when Ash is worlds away!
I am being punished unjustly. Lücan knows I never wanted to give her name, but he is furious, more furious than the necklace incident. I didn't mean to, but when I told Keenan her name, her face appeared in my mind. Keenan saw it, too, and there was nothing I could do to erase it from his mind.
Why did I confess my error to Lücan? The loathing in his eyes before... He'd always reserved those looks for Keenan or Konstantin.
But Lyrethan is safe, the net mended. But it's not enough. People were lost today, and Ash is in more danger than ever. Because of me.
Now I am useless to help her.
