It was the day of the big volleyball game against Hertford. From what the rest of the team tells me, they're really good. Coach has been prepping us for weeks.
"Are you excited?" Jenna asked as we started driving.
"Yeah, but also I'm nervous. There's been a lot if stir about this game. Apparently the Hawks are really good. It's nerve-wracking."
"You'll win. I'm sure you will," she smiled.
Then, I got a text from Harvey.
Harvard💓: Excited for the game?
Yeah, but I'm also nervous :My Love😍
Harvard💓: Don't worry. I've seen the Hawks play. You're way better😘
Thanks😘 :My Love😍
Harvard💓: np. And remember if you get nervous, I'll be watching and I love you ❤️
Aww :My Love😍
We pulled up to Hertford and I got out quickly, going to the dressing rooms. I changed quickly and met up with the team.
"This is a really big deal. We've never won against the Hertford Hawks. I have full confidence in you girls this year, though," Coach said in our huddle.
"You mean full confidence in Luna," Carly laughed.
The team laughed as well, excluding Kimberly. What's her problem?
"Just try your best and have fun, girls," Coach said and we went out.
As soon as the game started, I could tell it would be a tough match to win. They had really good teamwork and we're tough and tall. Those were three qualities we didn't really have.
Kimberly served and they immediately hit it back over. Carly hit it back to them and they hit it in my direction. I spiked it to where no one was because, ya know, that's what you do. Point for us, anyway.
We won the first set by eleven points, but lost the second by four. The third set is where it all came in.
Sammy hit the ball over the net and someone on the other team hit it back over really, really hard, so hard that it was all the way in the back, where none of us were. I ran back and slid on the ground with my foot up and kicked it back to my team. I got up at once and helped my team out. We got the point in the end. Bad thing, I hit my head pretty hard when I slid, which hurt and I had to be taken out, but that was the end of the set and we won that set.
"Are you okay?" Coach asked.
"Yeah. I'm fine," I said.
"Your head's bleeding, Luna!" Emily said.
"Oh? Is it? I'm fine."
"Hold this on it," the coach said, giving me a cloth wrapped around an ice pack.
I held it on my head with my left hand and leaned back.
I looked over at Harvey, who was looking at me with a worried expression. I gave him a thumbs up and a smile.
He gave me smile back that wasn't so sure and a thumbs up.
I laughed at his weirdness and put my attention back on the game.
The team lost the fourth set and Coach let me go back into the game for the fifth and final set.
I tried really hard and did my best. I scored once when the other team spiked it over and I slid, saving the ball with my hand. Kimberly hit it up and I got up, hitting it over while the team was already celebrating. The ball hit two of them in the head and another in the arm, but they were too confused to save it.
"DOUBLE HEADSHOT!" I laughed as the team got together and hugged as a celebration.
We laughed together.
We ended up winning the fifth set. I smiled at our win and hugged my team.
"You did great!' Harvey told me, hugging me tightly after the game.
I smiled and hugged back. When he pulled away, I kissed him and smiled.
"You're amazing," He told me with his forehead on mine.
"Well, I have amazing support," I smiled at him and kissed him again.
"Get a room," Max laughed.
