Brian Sutherland considered himself a reasonable man. With Sandy blond hair and steely grey eyes and body built for action, it was rare a woman wouldn't do his bidding.
He ran a business training and placing Bouncers. He taught them how to deescalate situations and how to defend themselves and others with limited physical contact.
He also taught them how to report their side of a conflict to the police without any admitted fault.
Washington has hundreds of clubs and bars and unemployed able bodies to cover the Bouncer positions, so business was definitely booming.
All he needed was a decent receptionist. Of all the jobs in his industry the receptionist job was not only the most critical, but easiest. Take a name and number and reason for the call. Let them know that Mr. Sutherland or his counter part Mr. Avery, would call them back as soon as possible. But Laney Smith, though young and bright in appearance couldn't get it for the life of her.
Bryan and Cole Avery had both had multiple talks with her and now it was coming down to her final write up. He winced when he looked at her note on his desk. "Mr. Avacado called and wants you to call him back." Aside from the fact that he had no clients Avacado, it was Amos, there was no time and date stamp on the note and most importantly, no phone number. He let out an annoyed moan and made a fist on the note. Then got up and using his cell phone, quickly return Amos's call. It was a good call to. Amos had a lead on another possible contract. Information that a proper receptionist might have collected. Brian took down all the info and then hung up. "Cole!" He called out and Cole walked into his office "Two things man. One, we have a lead on a new club at the South end of Tacoma. Two, let's go ahead and post an assistant for Laney. Someone who can eventually take her place." He smoothed out the note and handed it to Cole who shook his head. "I don't get it. How the hell can she screw up so much?" He asked with a humorless chuckle. "Don't know. She has special skills I guess." Brian shook his head.
He glanced out his door to see Laney standing at the water cooler, her back to them as she talked on her cell phone. The main line ringing and she ignored it "Seriously? She's on her freaking cell?" He snapped and answered the call. It was an emergency. There had been a shooting at one of the Bars they covered and their employee had taken a bullet to the ribs.
"Laney, take clear and precise messages. Cole and I will be out the rest of the day. Also, get a job advertisement posted for an office assistant immediately." Brian called out and she nodded that she understood.
