Trey never broke eye contact as Jacob spoke with a rough tone to his voice why did you leave your last ranch job. I waited a moment and spoke softly the color still gone from my face. You can believe what you want and if that nickname were given to a man it would not matter, I am a woman and that is already a strike against me. The nickname should not matter I am good at what I do and will do a good job if you will give me a chance. Jacob turned to his brother can we speak in the hall. They stepped out of the office

I could hear them in the hall they did not want me this damn thing was going to cost me everything, I could not keep moving I was out of money and out of chances this was it. When Trey said It wasn't worth the risk to hire me my heart dropped this was it, I would never get a job on a ranch again when Jacob raised his voice and talked over Trey, I couldn't believe what I was hearing he was standing up for me. "Trey I know you want to protect what dad left us but something about the defeat in her eyes when we asked her about the nickname tells me that it isn't because she is wild something happened to her. If she were simply wild, she would have fought us on it not just bowed her head and looked as defeated as she did. Something happened to her to earn that and I don't think that it was good." I didn't move didn't breathe I couldn't believe what I was hearing Jacob new he had an idea just from my eyes I was so stunned. When the men walked back into the room I was looking down, I was hardly breathing, when they both stood behind the desk again Trey spoke first you " I do not know what my brother sees in you but you have the job, there are some rules and conditions though so keep that in mind. I will let Jacob show you around and explain everything to you ." he paused for a moment and then spoke again with a more dominant tone to his voice. If you break any of the rules that we set or do anything to make us question your loyalty to our ranch we will fire you on the spot no questions just out, you bring a lot of uncertainties with you and the things that I have heard about you make me extremely wary about letting you stay. My dad always said everyone needs a chance to let you see the real them ..... THIS IS YOURS DO NOT MAKE ME REGRET GIVING IT TO YOU. With that he turned and walked out of the room. My eyes stayed on the spot he had been until Jacob cleared his throat....

Well that was intense but time to get you settled in. I stood and motioned for him to lead the way. He stopped in front of me and looked down at me ... was he really that tall he had to be at least 6' 3" I tilted my head up to look him in the eye the best I could. He spoke softly .... There is something about you Kassie that makes me want to step in and help you hell even protect you please don't give my brother a reason to fire you.

I couldn't Move I just looked into his eyes when he suddenly captured my lips I didn't know what to do but my body took over I kissed him back , it stopped as suddenly as it had started we were both breathing hard my lips felt swollen and my eyes were wide.... Jacob you don't even know me why ....why did you do that.

His eyes were clear when he said I don't know but I couldn't help myself and it felt right. He jerked his head and took off walking he wanted me to follow him so I did he spent the next several hours showing me around the ranch until he came to the bunk house that he explained would be for me, he walked me inside and when the door shut he turned and looked me dead in the eyes.

Why do they call you mustang your file said that you were the hardest worker they had at your last ranch but then one day it all changed you got drunk and got into trouble. Before then you could out ride, rope, and work any of the men that they had... he trailed off as I put my hand up. Jacob I will be the hardest worker here and if you give me a few weeks and I will be better than you and your brother just to prove you made the right choice. He chuckled We will see about that last part, but you didn't answer my first question. I shook my head and spoke again. I was stupid when I was younger, give me a reason to trust you and then maybe Ill tell you.

He looked stunned but left the topic alone dinner is about an hour if you want to eat the rest of the guys would love to meet you but just know that if you don't show there is no food till breakfast. I nodded as he opened the door and left ... I closed and locked the door and sank to the floor the true extent of my exhaustion hitting me hard ... How did that damn nickname follow me I never would have thought it could catch up to me a couple states away... I sat there for a while and decided a shower would help me clear my head as I started to shower I began to relax and the need for sleep took over, I couldn't do this I needed a nap if I was going to make it to dinner and meet the rest of the hands. Finding a towel in the cabinet I dried off and changed into some shorts and a tank and laid down ... I would just sleep for a little while and then I would be ready to go.....
