"Slash, parry, feint, dodge..."

These words flashed briefly through his mind before dissipating under the swelling tide of effort to fend off his adversary.

Only afterword would he wonder things like, "Where am I?";"Where did I get a sword?";"How the hell am I fighting a dragon?"

Alas, any such lapse of focus would earn him a swift, painful death.

After what seemed like an eternity, he faltered beneath the brute force of his foe. His opponent took advantage of this opportunity to fling the puny human into a nearby tree, temporarily stunning him. The beast staggered to where he laid sprawled at an unnatural angle. It seemed to delight in his wretched state.

"Just give up already, we both know how this ends," It mocked.

The pitiful boy erupted into a violent fit of hacking, spitting up blood onto the dragon's lustrous scales. It curled it's lips back into a gruesome snarl as it savagely snapped the boy's neck and dumped him in the river. Scrubbing at the blood, the vain creature admired his reflection, noting the imperfections caused by the previous scuffle.

"I'll make you suffer next time, you impudent brat."
