The lake surface rippled as the breeze blew across it, making the leaves rustle.
Helga sighed contentedly, shifting her head slightly where she was leaning against Godric's chest. She felt his arms tighten slightly around her waist.
"Godric?" she asked timidly, showing a rare glimpse of insecurity. "Do you think this will work?"
She felt Godric's smile against the back of her head as he told her, "Yes."
"Do you think..." She faltered. "Do you think it will last?"
She felt Godric nodding as he told her firmly, "For a thousand years or more, my love."
The silence stretched on, seeming to fill a space as vast as the lake, and Helga looked up at the castle on the hill, their masterpiece. She knew his words were true; Though he was the youngest of them all, four years her junior, she trusted him most.
"Godric?" Helga asked again, breaking the silence. She gathered up her courage, turning to face him. "What about this? Will this last?"
Godric smiled, his arms still around her waist, and she knew he understood what she was asking.
She wound her arms around his neck, awaiting his answer.
"Hogwarts may stand for thousands of years, Helga, but my love for you will last forever."
