'Examine your novel's theme for title ideas.'
This is the most important step of making a title.
Once you are done studying various types of titles, you should go back to your own book and read your own story once again and analyse it. This will remind you of the particular theme you were following. Give a close glance to the plot, setting and the characters.
If you've not yet started writing your story, don't worry. Just think of a particular theme which interests you to write your story and of which your whole novel will be based on. Give importance to the plot, setting and the characters, which will give you new ideas for the title.
You should be careful while following this step because this is the core of the process. If your title is something which is totally different from what your story is all about, then your book as well as the title may turn out to be a total flop.
For example, if the title of a novel is 'Love, Kiera' , then you will think that this book might be based on a letter to someone, or perhaps a life of a girl whose name is Keira and she probably writes in her diary. You will think that it might be a romance novel. This will maybe interest you to read the novel. But if you find out that the story of the novel is nothing related to the title, like if it's based on a horror story then you will be disappointed.
Thus, it's also important to keep the genre of the story in mind. A title that suits a romance story will just not work for a paranormal story. Same is the case with the other genres. So be careful while choosing the title and the genre of your story.
I read a lot of novels and one of my favourite is 'Divergent' by Veronica Roth. The name of this novel says it all. And it works well with its description and theme.
