"This is my house..."  I said, opening the door and walking inside. "My bedroom is upstairs. The first door on the left." I lead Catherine to my bedroom, let her inside and sat on my bed.

"Do you want my bed?" I asked, looking around to see Catherine pulling out an old mattress from under my bed, that had an old sleeping bag and a pillow on top of it.

"I'll be fine." She unpacked her stuff and looked up at me. "The old owners must of been considerate... deus ex machina much?"

I scoffed. "Yeah, it's pretty creepy. When we showed up at the door it was these two old people. They said they left things for us... I guess one of those was a mattress. I don't even know how I didn't see it befo—"

I heard the front door slam shut, which meant one of two things. Either Dad was home, or JD. Both were awful.

I got up and looked at Catherine. "I'll be back, okay?" I assured her. She meekly nodded in reply and I marched down the stairs, a wave of anxiety brushing over me.

I looked around, and there he was, Mr J.D, leaning against the wall, drinking a slushy. He noticed me, and threw this cup on the counter, spilling brown slush over the wooden floor.

"Hey, Green-Eyes." He cooed at me. "How ya doing?"

I frowned. "Don't call me Green-Eyes."

"Don't call me Green-Eyes," He mocked, chuckling under his breath. It was this rebel stance, this rudeness, that attracted chicks like a magnet. Why? I don't know.

"You didn't say you had company." J.D remarked, pointing over at Catherine. I turned around and saw her creeping down the staircase. I raised an eyebrow, and she looked askew.

"I got hungry."

"I'll uh— get some some food." I went over to the kitchen, pulling her over by the shirt. When J.D wasn't looking, I opened the fridge and whispered to her.

"What the hell was that about?" I asked, a hand on my hip. She looked nervous, but also a little bit embarrassed.

"Look, sorry. I really like you, Olivia. I just... curiosity got the best of me."

I sighed. "I understand... I guess. You're lucky I like you. Now... go back upstairs and I'll tell you everything about my brother later."

Her eyes lit up, I handed her an apple, and she ran back upstairs. I returned my attention back to J.D, who was now spinning motorbike keys around his finger.

"Where are you going?" I asked, a frown growing on my face.

"Out."

"Get me a slushy, and I won't tell dad."

"Fine, Green-Eyes." He teased as he closed the door behind him. It was me and Catherine again. I headed back upstairs and leaped onto to my bed.

"So. Share everything." Catherine said, a little smirk on her face.

"Well, it's kinda complicated. Our father is complete psycho and our mother died a while ago... and that death really changed JD. He's not the most... mentally stable person out there—"

"I.. I get it now." Catherine interrupted, looking a little surprised.

"It's late..." I said, glancing over at the clock. "We should go to sleep."

Catherine nodded as a reply, and I slowly drifted away to sleep....

(-(-(-)-)-)

Catherine had left the house by now, Dad was at work and JD hadn't returned yet either, leaving me home alone. I sat on the couch, browsing TV channels, when I heard the door open. In stumbled JD and... Veronica? I meekly waved.

"H-Hey." Veronica said, her voice shaky and scared. "You're Olivia, right?"

"Yeah." I looked over at JD. He threw a cup filled with neon blue slush across to me; spilling some on the carpet. At least he'd kept his promise... I took an annoyed sip and looked back at Veronica.

"Hey, can you follow me please Veronica? I have this outfit that'd look amazing on you."
