"So... you're from lots of places, eh?" The girl in front of me said, playing with her long, black swishy hair. She had small brown eyes and a skinny body that was dressed with an outfit straight out of a 'teen magazine.
"Yeah... I have no idea when I'm from." I replied with a small grin. "Oh, I never caught your name." I took another step forward; the lunch line was long and boring. Nearby I saw the Heathers; just not the blue one...
"Catherine Chang, nice to meet you. You're Olivia Dean right?" She asked, as we grew closer to the front of the line. "I can't wait to introduce you to Bella!!"
I smiled weakly. "Great to meet you as well." I played around with the piece of paper that held Catherine's number on it. She was definitely an optimistic extrovert; the complete opposite of me. That was probably just my upbringing.
My food tray was loaded with slop, and I followed Catherine to her table, nearly bumping into a few people. I took a seat across from Catherine, and I'm guessing who was Bella.
Bella had long pale blonde hair; that was straightened and trimmed to lay just on top of her bust. She had cold blue eyes and an outfit that was also regurgitated from a magazine.
"Hey." I said, taking a spoonful of slop. It tasted about as good it smelt.
We talked about a lot of things; where I came from, who I was, people at school, we spent most of lunch in a conversation about something. As we got up to leave, I noticed my brother talking to the blue Heather... Veronica. Yeah, that was her name.
I didn't expect her to be that coy—
I was broken from my gaze by two loud bangs. Almost gunshots. I straightaway looked other at my brother J.D who looked back at me and shrugged. I looked at Catherine and Bella, who were in complete shock. The whole cafeteria was looking at my brother. He got up, brushed off his jacket, and left the caf, a smug look on his face. I followed him outside, because nobody else even daring to get up.
"What the hell was that?" I growled, pulling him by the bottom of his trench coat, spinning him around. The smug look was still plastered on his face. "I'll tell dad about this—"
"Sssh, I'm standing up for what's right. It's not like Dad cares anyway." He bent down to my level (He was a good 5 inches taller than me), and ruffled my hair.
"Are you serious? How is shooting a gun standing up for what's right?" I screeched back, stepping away from him. Behind me I heard running footsteps. I turned and saw a teacher dashing towards us.
"It was blanks..." He then saw the teacher. "Anyway lil' sis, gotta dash."
(-(-(-)-)-)
The cool AC blew onto me as I took a few steps into the 7-11, walking over to the slushy counter. Catherine was right behind me; but Bella went home with her cousin, who just happened to be Heather Duke.
I grabbed a cup and started filling it with red slush. I went up the counter, paid, and sat outside on the sidewalk against the wall of the 7/11. Catherine came and sat next to me.
"That guy that shot those blanks... was he your brother or something?" Catherine asked, moving over next to me.
"Yeah, he's my brother. He's... unique." I answered. The sun started to set, in the distance. "Hey, it's getting dark... we should get going."
"Do you mind if I spend the night at yours? I was supposed to spend the night at another girls house but she ditched me... pretty lame huh?"
"Sure, I guess."
