College. The place where everyone experiments to figure out who they are as a person. Where unforgettable parties happen every other week. And don't forget all the freshmen trying to get into a fraternity or sorority. It's the first time most of us have lived alone. It's the first sign of adulthood.
Ever since I started high school I had been excited about college. Not because of the parties or typical college things, because it meant independence. I've always been someone who likes being alone and figuring out how to do something on their own.
That's the main reason why I picked a school on the other side of the country. Honestly, I made a great choice going to UC Santa Cruz. If I had picked anywhere near Maryland my parents would visit me all the time.
It might sound scary to most people to move somewhere nowhere near family but to me it was paradise. Don't get me wrong, I love everyone in my family, they're just too much at times.
Today was the day I was moving into my dorm and I made sure that everyone, by everyone I mean my family, woke up early to get this done and over with. Although it was hard, we got out of the hotel at ten. Thankfully, my mom took my younger siblings to the boardwalk while my dad and the older ones helped me move in.
After checking in and getting my key we headed to the dorm. With the four of us, my dad and two brothers, working together we had everything packed up just in time for lunch.
"Your mother will be here soon so let me give my talk before I cant say anything. I know being by yourself might be hard at first but your a strong boy. On that note, if you need anything we are just a phone call and a plane ticket away."
"I know dad." A smile fills my face as I pull him into a hug. Soon enough my brothers join in and I can't help but let them in. Although I was happy to move, I was going to miss them.
I saw my mom and little siblings coming down the hall. "My baby!" I groaned hearing my mom yell for me with extended arms. I roll my eyes and extend my arms for her to jump into. Behind her are a couple of girls that start giggling and looking over at my direction.
"My little boy is all grown up. Or should I say, little man." She said while ruffling up my hair. I rolled my eyes and saw the girls still looking.
Great. There goes any shot I had with them. I awkwardly smile and wave at them, causing them to giggle even more. College hasn't even started and I already look like a fool.
My mom finally releases me from the death grip if a hug she was giving me. She had small tears falling down her face that had a wide smile. I wipe away a few tears and smile. Like I said before, I'm gonna miss them.
"Hold on." I quickly grabbed my small digital camera from my room and smiled. "Gotta take one last picture together before you guys leave."
After coming back from my room I looked over at the girls and smiled. "Mind taking a picture for us?" I call out.
Without hesitation, the brunette walks over and I hand her the camera. "Thanks, I really appreciate it." I joined my family as all eight of us struggle to fit in the picture. After several tries, I thank the brunette. "I'll be back later," she said with a smile. Maybe my chances weren't gone after all.
After saying goodbye almost a million times I was finally on my own. Although they helped me get my stuff down I still needed to get them out of boxes.
I spent a good couple of minutes unpacking until I heard my door open. I thought it was going to be my roommate but it was the brunette and her friend. I knew I should have locked the door. "Hey," they said almost in unison.
Although there were two very pretty girls in my room I kept my cool and smiled at them. "Hi, I'm Hunter. Can I help you?"
Can I help you?
