I sigh as I watch her walk to the back room while she runs her hands through her short, brown hair. 'I'll call her. But, sadly, we won't be soulmates, because of this stupid curse I have making me immortal,' I sigh, a small frown forms on my face. I pick up my stuff and walk out the cafe, into the busy streets of New York. I frown a bit more, 'I need to move. I'm getting tired of this busy place.' I put my hand up, waving for a taxi.
---------
I get home and I walk up the stairs to my apartment. I fumble for my keys, finally getting the right one, and walk through the door after unlocking it. I glance at the clock, 6:00 pm, and sigh. 'I guess this is a good time to call her. I pick up my phone and dial her number.
After a couple rings, I sigh and almost clicked end before I hear a groggy, "Hello?" A smile forms on my face before faltering.
"Hi. It's Layla. Did I wake you? I'm sorry," I ask.
"No, you didn't, it's okay," she forgives.
"Are you sure? You sound tired."
"Yeah, I'm sure. I just had a long day." I smile softly.
"Okay. Other than that, how was your day?"
"It was amazing," she exclaims, and I can hear a her giddiness, "I met the most beautiful person today. She had long, platinum blonde hair, and I got lost in her stormy, gray, eyes. She made my day better" My face heats up as she says that.
"I'm glad I could help." I sigh, happily.
"You really did. How was yours?"
A smirk forms on my face, "Ah, it was decent. Could've been better."
"Oh, okay. Sorry." I could hear the disappointment in her voice and I laugh.
"I'm sorry that was mean. I had an amazing day. I'm glad I met you." We both laugh for a minute.
"Wow. I didn't know you were mean."
I smirk at that, "You don't know anything about me." 'Soon, you'll know my secret,' I finish in my head.
"But I would like to know everything about you." I blush madly at that.
"Soon, you will, soon." I smile.--------
{Six hours later}"Oh I bet you won't," Ambrose laughs. We were making a bet about whether I could live a day without coffee.
"And I bet I do." I laugh with her, emphasizing on 'do'.
"Okay, if you're so sure, come in tomorrow, at nine. That's when I go into work. And if you order a coffee, I'll win. If you don't, you win."
I roll my eyes, "Okay. What does the winner get?"
"Winners choice." I smirk at that, knowing I need to win.
"You're on, Amb." I blush, realizing I just gave her a nickname.
"Amb? Wow, didn't know we were already in that phase of our relationship." My face heats up more at that.
"Sorry, it just slipped out."
"No, it's fine. It's cute, Lay." She emphasized on my new nickname, making the blush that went away, for a split second, come back.
I giggle softly and glance at the clock, 12:00 am, "Oh, wow, time passes by fast. It's already midnight," I sigh.
"Oh, yeah, I guess it does," she replies, sighing also, "I guess I should head to bed now, huh?"
"Yeah, guess you should. You need sleep."
She laughs, loudly, "You do too if you're planning on winning the bet."
'Oh shit, she's right.' I think with a sigh, 'But if I admit that, her ego will go up.' "Sleep or not, I'm winning this bet."
We both laugh, "Okay, whatever you say. You're going down."
I scoff, "Yeah, sure, whatever you say."
"Okay. I guess this means we have to end the call," she sighs.
"Yeah, guess we do. Good night, Amb."
"Good night, Lay."
I sit there, not wanting to end the call, waiting for her to end it before I hear a sigh, a click, and the dial tone, signaling she ended the call. I plug my phone up before laying back down and drifting off to sleep.
The last thought on my mind was, 'Why did I meet her, this will just bring me pain.'Words: 713
