Explaining my life to others was very difficult. The teachers never understood exactly what was going on, but they had a pretty good idea of it. Most teachers would just expect less because of my mother's past except for Mrs. Greenly. That kind old woman would make your heart melt like chocolate in your pocket. She gave me the idea that I had potential, even if by the time I had her I was 6. My Aunt was preoccupied on the real mess in the house so attention wasn't as easy to come by. Although I had Mrs. Greenly, I could always count on Daniel's parents.
Daniels parents treated me like one of their own. They understood without needing to ask about my situation. Everyday after school, Daniel's parents would pick me up and watch me until 5:30 then naturally my Aunt would come pick me up and take it from there. Along with taking care of my mother, she also had a full time job as an E.N.T. in the specialty clinic in our town. When Auntie was at work, my mom had to go to a day treatment center to prevent her from having uncontrollable psychotic episodes and tendencies. At the end of the day, Daniel was the one who was truly there for me. He never expected anything of me and that's what I loved the most. I think he loved it too.
