As I am not going school today, I meet my friend Lina who lives near my home. We play with her cousins, they are a little mean to me but I don't react because I will be leaving soon.
Me: Lina, I want to tell you something. We are leaving this country my mom got another job.
Lina: Whatttt! Why didn't you tell me before? I thought I was your best friend!
Me: I didn't know how to say it, trust me I never wanted to hide it from you. I hope you will still talk to me after I leave.
Lina: Of course I will you are still my best friend. You better keep in touch.
Me: haha I will don't threaten me.
As it was time for me to leave, my heart felt heavy, when will I see her again I don't know.
The Next Morning
Wake up! Wake up!
I woke up startled as I heard that voice I don't recognise it, I look around but see no one, my room is dimly lit by the sun rays coming from the window.
Looking at the calendar I realised that tomorrow we leave. I was still drowsy so I walk towards the window to unfold the curtains, but as the sunlight hits me I feel a slight burn, alarmed I run to my mom.
Me: Mom look! The sunlight hurts!
Mom: Maybe you had a bad dream Nash, morning sun won't burn you, go back to sleep, we are packing today.
Me: But Mom!
Mom: Let me close the curtains for you, Will you sleep then?
Me: Yes mom.
We go back to my room, she tucks me in the bed, closes the curtains, and kisses my forehead.
Mom: Rest well Nash, and call me if you need anything.
Me: Yes mommy! Love you!
Mom: Love you more my baby!
I forget about everything else and fall into deep slumber.
I wake up a few hours later and smell pancakes, I rush to the kitchen as my stomach grumbles. I see a plate already made for me, I greet my mom good morning and dig in.
Me: Mmmmm! Mom do you know you make the best food! I can eat all of them and still can't get enough.
Mom: Haha, my child if you want I'll teach you to cook. But now you are a kid so enjoy life.
Me: Thanks mom I would love to learn cooking soon. Where's dad, is he still sleeping?
Mom: Hush! Lower your voice, he doesn't like to be woken up so early, let's not wake the devil.
Me: I am done with breakfast, can I help in packing?
Mom: I have already packed your stuff, go meet your friends today, they will miss you.
Me:I don't think anyone will miss me, I am a nerd, but I'll still say my goodbyes.
Mom: Being a nerd is not a bad thing, once you grow up people will flock around you for help in studies, for now don't ponder over what people say. Get dressed I'll drop you.
Me: Yes mom, I'll be right back.
I wore a plaid skirt with a black tee and a cap just in case the sun tries to burn me again.
Me: Mom! I am ready, let's goooo!
My mom comes to me with tear strained eyes, I ask her what's wrong but she says it's nothing.
I have a feeling it's something that my dad did to her but I'll ask later. We leave my brother with father.
As I reach my friend's place I hug her and we go to her room after greeting her mom.
In her room we made promises to always stay in touch and share everything with each other. And we played, sung songs.
I tried to be strong but couldn't stop the tears that escaped
After we spent enough time together, I left with my mom.
After going home I got changed and spent some time with Sandy, Dad was shouting at my mom as usual, he didn't like the food she cooked.
We loved the dinner though, mom's the best.
It was bedtime soon and tomorrow we were leaving so I went to my bedroom but the excitement kept me up late.
Staring at the stars from my window I slowly fell asleep.
The Next Day
I woke up to my father's yelling, rubbing my eyes and jumping out of the bed I ran to my mom. I saw my mom cowering in fear and her lips trembled as my father kept yelling and cursing at her. I ran to hug her and shouted at my father, which earned me a slap, all this noise had woken up my brother and he started crying. So much for a life changing day.
When he was done my father left and we started getting ready. We left shortly after breakfast.
As we reached the airport I looked around amazed by it, like all other children, I held my mom's hand tightly. My maternal cousins and my uncles came to see us off. They gave us hugs, chocolates and toys before leaving, my grandmother also came but I don't like her much, she wasn't like other grandmothers, she never helped my mom when my dad abused her neither did my uncles.
As we checked in, we entered the minicars which took us to our plane. It was my first time on a plane so I was really excited and couldn't wait for it to take off. The air hostesses provided us with blankets, earbuds, headphones and toys for me and Sandy.
As the plane took off I started getting a bit scared and shut my eyes, mom turned on the screens in front of us and I got distracted by watching cartoons.
After an hour or two, we were served food and juices. When I was done eating I stared outside, all I could see was clouds, it felt amazing flying with the clouds.

Soon I got bored and started the cartoon again. I looked around and saw everyone sleeping which made me feel sleepy too. So I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
