luke woke up with a start.

his heart pounded furiously and a heat spread in his chest as memories of the strange dream he'd experienced flooded back into his head.

the girl frantically stumbled down the long, dark hallways, empty yet full.

"come back! come back! baby, no, please," she cried, falling onto her knees in tears.

the dark, empty hallway tightened and stretched for what seemed like miles.

a tall, lean figure appeared at the end, cradling something in its arms. his head snapped up, gaze boring evilly at the frightened boy experiencing the strange dream. another, more feminine shadow appeared, taking the small figure from the others arms. there was something sinister and twisted about all of it.

suddenly, the scenery changed to another room. flames licked at the corners and walls as the screams and desperate cries of little girls wailed out. three earsplitting gunshots sounded, and suddenly all went eerily quiet.

a heartbroken, unfamiliar voice whispered out.

"amber..."

Luke steadied his breathing and got up from his lying position on the couch. he needed to stop the late night horror movie marathons with the boys with the occasional satisfying beer.

slipping his smartphone from the pocket, he clicked the home button.

5:22 , glowed the screen.

well. might as well take a quick shower considering the metallic dried sweat he was coated in from lugging around boxes and furniture in the heat.

he walked down the long, empty hallway. flashes of his dream replayed.

babies crying, gunshots sounding....

luke decided to quicken his pace up the staircase. he was not usually easily spooked, but being in the large empty house, alone, considering the dark past it's had...

for once he tried to shut his imagination up.

his tall legs trembled as each step he took made a small creaking noise.

damn this old house...

he slowly reached the top step and ran towards his bedroom door, ready to blast blink-182 from his iHome to calm his frazzled nerves. if only the boys didn't have their own girlfriends to get home to, they'd be making jokes and spooking each other about the house.

luke sighed and twisted the doorknob.

his heart leaped out of his throat at the sight on his bed.

"what the FUCK!"

he clutched at his chest, as his breathing sped. the light filled room illuminated the strange girl sitting cross legged on his full size bed, sitting in the middle of the room.

her head shot towards him, and her face lit up with the smallest of laughs at his reaction. her ruby red lips curved to reveal her white teeth. her pale skin littered with light freckles across her cheekbones and luminescent green eyes rendered him speechless for a moment. her thick black bangs curtained her forehead, and the rest of her lustrous hair was pulled into a loose bun at the nape of her neck.

his heart fluttered in what seemed like a good way when she gave a small giggle.

scoffing at himself, he planted his feet firmly on the ground.

"w-who are you?"

he asked, startled and a bit upset with the girl mysteriously sitting on his bed.

"hi. sorry to scare you. I used to live here. still visit often." she said simply, giving a nostalgic look up to the ceiling. luke didn't notice she hadn't answered his question.

he glanced at her quizzically. "i'm luke. just moved in. well, I have to get to unpacking..." he cleared his throat, hoping she'd get a clue.

the pale girl stood up from her position on the bed and smiled widely.

"need any help?"
