*  Chapter One  *

I glanced at the clock in exasperation for the millionth time as the barista that had grudgingly promised to “prepare my coffee as fast as she could” curled her fingers around her cherry blond hair and flutter her eyelashes. She was gazing at the man who was impatiently talking to her about his order and asking for her to do it quickly since, it seemed, he had to be in a meeting in twenty minutes and he could not be late for it.

She giggled and stared openly at the guy, who, by his tone, seemed to be far more interested in his cup of coffee than her number and address.

I impatiently tapped my fingers on the cold wooded counter.  I had to be on time for class; I was in the verge of getting a detention and my mum would kill me if she found out about it. My brows furrowed and a small growl slipped my lips as she giggled again at whatever thing the guy had said; she opened her mouth so wide that I could even see the gum she had been chewing on seconds before.

Gosh, could she look even more desperate?

 “Sorry, could you hurry up with my coffee? I'm in a hurry.” I asked the barista with a fake smile. She glared daggers at me for my interruption as she watched the guy with longing. He, finally satisfied that someone was also rushing the woman to work, left towards the sitting area. I´m guessing so that he could wait for his order far a way from the annoying barista.

As he walked away I finally got a glimpse of what had been all the fuss about. The guy was handsome, incredibly handsome: he had a chiseled jaw; a straight nose and brown almost black short hair that fell over his coal like eyes. He had high cheekbones and to the barista´s delight -and mine- a five o'clock shadow too. His shirt hinted to what looked like a very fit body. His skin was as pale as a corpse, and I realized, with a start that he was a royal vampire: I could faintly see the fangs he hid as he smiled and the power he held just by the way he walked. A small shivered coursed through my body at that thought.

 The annoying barista chewed on her gum loudly and with a smack on that poor peace of gum she turned around and went to prepare my holy cup of coffee.

With a sigh I walked towards the shelves that held the different pastries that the small coffee shop offered while I waited for my coffee, I smelled the air and smiled faintly, momentarily forgetting about my surroundings as I remembered the times when I had baked desserts with my father when I had been a child.  I stared at the chocolate deliciousness that surrounded me and stared in wonder at a triple chocolate jumbo-sized muffin. I was a sucker for chocolate.

A loud, whiny voice interrupted my trail of thought. “Double shot espresso with a swirl of cinnamon and vanilla coming right up!” I rolled my eyes at the barista's voice but walked up to the counter where she was placing my over priced cup of coffee anyway. I was dying of caffeine deprivation.

 But before I could reach for it, pale, rough, manly fingers took hold of it first. I stared in horror as the guy that the barista had been ogling instants before took a sip of my coffee and casually started to walk towards the front door.
