Tell me this isn't happening.
Oh God.
Okay maybe this isn't so bad - i can try to make up for how i talked to him before.
I'm not mentally prepared for this! I thought i'd never see this kid again, knowing that i'm trying to make up for my actions just puts more pressure on how i act around him.
Or i could just run.
Before i could properly think about my next moves, i found myself rushing towards the back. I was pretty much jogging in my heels to try and get out of there - i could feel my managers eyes on me. What if i get fired?!
Hopefully Jasmine realises i'm preoccupied and takes matters into her own hands. I finallly get behind the double doors just near the "staff only" room. I can just about see almost the whole room, but fortunately they can't see me. I watch in anticipation as Jasmine approaches one of the other boys. She asks if there is anything specific they're looking for and all the usual protocol.
"What are you doing?" I hear a voice behind me, making me jump. I turn to see one of the supervisors behind me, her arms crossed and eyebrows raised.
"It's celine, right? Your shift started about 10 minutes ago. Why are you out here?"
Fuck.
I scattered my brain trying to think of an appropriate excuse.
"I erm, i think my timetable is..wrong. Yeah i.. erm i should be on tills today?"
She didn't look too convinced. My palms were sweating a little, my cheeks were flushed.
She finally let out a little sigh,
"okay, let's fix the situation then."
"No it's okay, i've just come to try and find my key for the tills." I quickly respond before she embarrasses me in front of my manager & the customers.
"No need. That'll take too long, just use mine." She yanks her key card off her neck and holds it towards me. My hands remain stuck to my sides, my conscience is just refusing to take it from her.
'think of another excuse!' Is all that i'm thinking of.
"Erm" i mutter. She finally gets tired of me and sighs before taking a step in front of me and walking towards the double doors.
"Well come on!" She looks back to see me staring at her wide eyed. I obediently follow behind, my head bowed down. I can feel my heart thumping against my chest. I haven't been this nervous in a while. We finally reach one of the cash tills and i can see jasmine looking at me with concern. She shrugs her shoulders at me as if asking "what was all that??" But i simply smile at her foolishly.
The supervisor hands me her key once more, i have no choice but to take it this time. I fumble with them a bit before being approached by my manager.
"What was all that about?" His face is tinted pink, a mixture of anger and embarrassment.
"Small misunderstanding, it's sorted now." The supervisor nods at him. That was very unexpected, i didn't expect her to stick up for me at all.
He sighs in frustration ; "thank you Marie" he dismisses her. "Get to work quickly Celine. I don't expect this type of behaviour again." He walks back towards the boys.

For the past 5 minutes i've been watching them hoping kylian doesn't look back and recognise me. Anytime he turns his head i'd try to cover my face by faking a cough, pretending to pick something up or using my big hair to hide.
I finally look up and see they're ready to pay. "Jasmine! Pssst!" I try to get her attention so she can come and cover for me but she's busy talking to Marie.
It's okay. This will be my chance to try and redeem myself and make him realise i'm not a terrible person.
Of course the first person to come to the cash register is him.
I straighten my posture and give him a genuine smile. I'm waiting for him to recognise me, but he just puts the bag down by the register.
"Just this?" I say in a friendly voice. He looks up to reply - i'm not sure if i'm imaging it but he seemed to have paused for a second. I feel like i saw a hint of recognition in his eyes, and his mouth twitch slightly as if he was about to smile. Instead he just responds with ; "Yes, thanks. Is card okay?" I feel disappointment wash over me. I shake my head a little - I don't know why i expected him to remember me anyway.
"Sure." i half smile and take the card from him. He doesn't even look at me as the card is processing, he's writing something down on a piece of paper. Just when i find something to say, his phone starts ringing. As i bag up his shopping and the receipt is printing off, he rejects the call.
"Have a good afternoon."
"Thanks, you too." He smiles, taking his bag. Just then i realise he left the little pen & paper he was writing on.
"Oh hey you left..." I see there's a small number written on there that catches my eye. I unravel the paper to see a small message under the phone number ;
"u didn't have 2 run from me :) sorry for the other day x let me make it up 2 u?
- ky "
