It was Monday, September 8th also know as the first day of school. 730am came around and Ellie was suiting up her service dog Zoe for their first year of public school together. She slipped on her harness and clipped her leash to Zoe's collar. " It won't be as bad as you think it will be. Take your pills and everything should go accordingly to plan, alright Ellie?" Said her mom Stacey. " I know mom, I'll try my best to make it a good day." Said Ellie as she grabbed her bag and started leading Zoe out the door.

I pulled up to the school parking lots and got out of my car. Braving my first day was going to be extremely hard. I opened the back door and let Zoe out. I then clipped her leash to my belt and started towards the main doors. All kinds of different people were walking by, staring at me, at Zoe. Although I don't blame them I wasn't ordinary and neither was Zoe we stuck out like a pair of sore thumbs. Here I am with short brown hair and yellow (yes yellow) eyes. Wearing black jeans, vans , a yellow t shirt and round Harry Potter like glasses. And Zoe .. well she's a beautiful brindle Great Dane, very rare. I stopped before walking into the school. I took a breath and gave Zoe a little run on the head. Time to start the day. I opened the doors and entered the seemingly quiet hallway and made my way to the main office. There I asked for my schedule and alerted them that my dog was on duty.Step by step I sauntered through the hallway with my baby by my side. Finding the chemistry lab was a bit harder than I anticipated but we made it. Having a service dog requires me to sit at the front of the class so I picked the front seat on the farthest side of the classroom and set up Zoe's little area and got all my supplies ready to go. Then the teacher walked in and introduced himself to me. " Hello , I'm Mrs. Celia. And who do I have the pleasure of teaching this semester?" She asked. " Hi I'm Ellie and this is my service dog Zoe." I replied. Mrs. Celia then talked me through what the class was like and proceeded back to her desk before everyone else arrived. As they poured through the door I noticed one girl who was particularly different , somewhat like me. She was so pretty and has this vintage 80s style. She ended up sitting near the back of the class but I'm determined to get to know her.
After Class was over I went and introduced myself to this girl. " Hi um I'm Ellie and this is my service dog Zoe. Your style is amazing and it's so good to meet you!" I told her . " Aw thank you that's so sweet. I'm May nice to meet you as well." She replied. We decided to go through our schedules and see if we had any other classes together; turns out we had 3 classes together. I think things are gonna turn out better than I thought, as always mom seems to be right again.
So eventually the time came for lunch which I was actually the most nervous for. As I walked into the cafeteria I had all the attention drawn to me. I lead Zoe over to the small table in the corner and sat down. Mom was nice enough to pack me a decent little lunch. All of sudden this one girl came up to me. " OMG your doggie is so cute you have to let me pet him ! He's absolutely gorgeous!!" She screeched. My heart started racing and I started sweating. " NNo , she's a um service dog you uh you can't pet her." I said as I stuttered. As this random girl continued to pet Zoe the more I started freaking out. " NO!!" I screamed. The whole cafeteria turned and looked at me. I panicked, the whole room was spinning as it got blurrier and the noises muffled. I fell to the ground, this time still conscious. Zoe pushed her way over to me to comfort me like she's suppose to. It takes awhile but everything starts coming back. I quickly get up and pack my things. We left the cafeteria in a hurry. The first day of school and only half way through I had already had a panic attack. This was going to be a long year.
