On duty

Chapter 3

I rolled out of bed Saturday morning with a text from Ruben I smiled and opened the message.
"Goodmorning ;)." He wrote
The butterfly's in my stomach fluttered while i typed the same thing back. I went downstairs to get some breakfast before taking Zoe on a walk. I grabbed the eggs, spinach and ham out of the fridge and made an omelette. Then i got Zoe all suited up and left the house. As we walked down the beautiful fall trail all I could think about was that text, i'm sure he was just being friendly but part of me couldn't push the idea away. I came across a small pond with a bench and decided to take a seat, to think a little. As I was deep in my thoughts I heard foot steps approaching from behind, I was caught of guard because nobody comes down this trail; I started going into panic mode. Quickly Zoe came over and started to comfort me.
"Oh my gosh Ellie I am SO sorry." Said a familiar voice. Once I catch my breath I turned around to see Ruben and Macee. Suddenly all my panic faded and I felt safe. "Ruben hey, I didn't know you walked this trail, usually nobody comes down." I explained.
"Well you talked about it so much the other day I figured it was a good thing to check out." He said. We decided to take the dogs further down the trail. While we were walking he grabbed my hand and intertwined our fingers, my heart skipped a beat but I held on. We talked and walked for a solid hour before I had to return to my house for Lunch. "Ellie, I had a good time today, we should do it more." Ruben said. " I can definitely agree on that one." I replied. As I started to walk away Ruben pulled me back and kissed my forehead. Those damn butterfly's took over and I was in full on blush mode, Ruben laughed and starting jogging the other way back to his home. "Oh zoe, I thought this would only get worse, maybe I was wrong." I hugged Zoe and thanked her for helping me so much.

Once I got home i texted Ruben, part of me could not keep away. We talked for hours and I told him everything.
"Ruben? I have something to tell you."
"Go for it Ellie, what's up ?"
"I know we only met a few days ago but you are truly the best thing that's happened to me this year and I really like you."
"Oh Ellie, I really like you too, i was hoping you caught that drift."
There was the butterfly's again.
"Did you want to go on a proper date, say tomorrow?"
"Oh Ruben I thought you'd never ask haha I'd love to."
With that i went to bed and not so patiently waiting for morning.
