Lyrics
You're a rock, standing strong
You're somebody else's home
You never fail, you're always tough
You are there when times get rough
(I feel you)
How your guard slowly breaks apart
(I see you)
I see it deep inside your heart
It's alright to feel hurt
And to share it with the world
Everybody cries sometimes
Everybody cries sometimes
It's okay, let it out
The pain that makes you wanna shout
Everybody cries sometimes
Everybody cries sometimes
Everybody cries sometimes
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
You reassure when danger's near
You never show a sign of fear
You stand the ground when others don't
You're a fortress built of stone
(I feel you)
How your guard slowly breaks apart
(I see you)
I see you deep inside your heart
It's alright to feel hurt
And to share it with the world
Everybody cries sometimes
Everybody cries sometimes
It's okay, let it out
The pain that makes you wanna shout
Everybody cries sometimes
Everybody cries sometimes
And if you want, you gotta friend (you gotta friend)
Let me take a piece of your burden off your shoulders
It's alright to feel hurt
And to share it with the world
Everybody cries sometimes
Everybody cries sometimes
It's okay, let it out
The pain that makes you wanna shout
Everybody cries sometimes
Everybody cries sometimes
Everybody cries sometimes
Everybody cries sometimes
Meaning to me:
This might be one of my longer descriptions because I want to break don't the entire song and what it means to me. The reason I am breaking down this song completely and not just part of it like previous chapters is because this song means a lot to me. This song talks a lot about something I constantly struggle with on a daily basis. Since I first heard this song and started listening to it, my perspective on things has really changed and I have really started to make an effort to try and talk about what bothers me. I really want to share this because I feel that it is something that a lot of people, mostly teens, struggle with in society these days because when someone shows their emotions other people often look at them differently. Today's society does not seem to take kindly to human emotions which I find unfortunate because we are all human, we all have feelings and emotions, and we can't and should not have to bottle them up inside and hide how we truly feel about things. This is why I want to break down everything is this song and explain what it means to me and how it makes me feel because I hope it can help other people realize that it's okay to share your emotions and feelings. Even if it doesn't seem okay to do it, it is and there is always someone there who will listen to you.
For me this song says it's okay to be upset, it's okay to cry, and it's okay to show emotions. Sometimes someone can be strong and is able to control their emotions but other times 'It's okay, let it out '. A person can't be strong all the time through every single situation. I know a lot of people, myself included, who often build a wall to hide their emotions and how they feel because they don't want to be embarrassed or burden other people with what is bothering them and the way they feel. That is not a good thing to do all the time. Sometimes you just have to let your emotions go and just let out whatever you feel.
I'm going to start at the beginning of the song. The first lyrics in this song is 'You're a rock, standing strong/You're somebody else's home/You never fail, you're always tough/You are there when times get rough'. I know a lot of people who would rather help their friends feel better than to help themselves, not because they don't care about themselves, but because they just care that much about the people in their lives. To me that is inspiring because it shows how selfless they are that they would help someone else whenever they need it, but I also think it can be a bit dangerous. If someone is 'strong' and 'tough' all the time, always helps someone else before helping themselves, never 'fails' to help someone else, is always there for someone during a tough time no matter what the situation is or what is going on in their lives that can have a serious effect on that person. It might make it difficult for them to address something that might be going on in their lives because they spend all their time helping someone else that when something comes along for them they simply push it aside so they can help other people. It is important to realize that while helping other people is important, helping yourself is equally as important. You and your health matters just as much as everyone else. You have the right to take time to help yourself and you have the right to ask for help too.
