Powder raining down on him, slimy liquid being dumped on his person that took months to remove, his nose transfigured into something not unlike a beak or a painful new spell that was designed specifically for his torment. These were some of the things that Severus Snape was expecting when he received a note from his school nemesis, the Marauders, to meet them. Certainly not all four of them standing in rune circles of truth and sincerity that glowed with genuine magic and them looking contrite and guilty and most certainly ashamed. He would be lying if he said he didn't enjoy the bloody sight of his school bullies (abusers) prostating themselves before him but he wasn't buying it. He knew a set up when he saw one (or he thinks so anyways) and these were ingenius people (and warewolf).
You couldn't fake these magic circles because not only will it drain your magic it will also likely to cause your death but he knew something was amiss. These were people of pride and glory they did not just go looking guilty for...well for anything really.
He scanned the abandoned classroom as the Marauders did not seem inclined to say anything. Other than stare morose at the floor. His calculating eyes narrowed as they landed on the only woman in here whose caring green eyes stood out in the dimly lit room and hair shone under the glow of the magic that surrounded it. Invisible to most yet extremely visible to Severus, so visible in fact he'd had the constant urge to squint his eyes aginst the glare of magic that surround the castle of Hogwarts where all six of them reside.
So that was the reason...he wished he could say that he was surprised but really ever since he stopped trying to apologize to the witch for the whole fiasco in their 5th year -- which he only did the start of this school year when he did not receive any reply to the letters he sent in the summer -- she has been trying to talk to him and of course he still respected himself(just a tiny bit) so he refused to acknowledge the witch that ignored him for two summers and one school year. Especially when he apologized every single day and made a fool of himself almost every waking hour for something that he did under immense peer preasure and under pain of humiliation. It was too much. Even for him.
It was not hard to earn the grudge of Severus Snape but it was a different story to make him loathe you to the point where you would really rather not go to the same room as him unarmed and unaccompanied.
"Snape we-were s-sorry..." Lupin mumbled almost inaudibly then trailed off as he seemed to realize the stupidity of the statement when Severus raised a perfect brow and looked at him with cold humour. It was scary.
Severus scoffed, "For what? For wasting my time? For the years of torment? For that useless apology? For making my life hell? For turning my only friend against me? For what are you apologizing, wolf?"
All five of them hung their heads, Lily sniffled and a tear or more left her beautiful eyes. Severus looked away, she was his best friend and he could never bear the sight of her in tears. He loved her like his sister. He may avert his gaze but the sound of poorly concealed and silenced sobs reached his keen hearing and even the shuffling of the pathetic Gryffindors cannot drown it out.
He ground his teeth and tried to walk out when Lily let out an almost silent whimper as if she was in physical pain and all his control crumbled to dust at his feet. He walked over to her and handed her a handkerchief and wiped her tears with his thumb gently.
"Do cease sniffling, it is unbecoming," he said before turning and walking out before those desolate green eyes look at him.
