Prologue
The time has come.
What my entire family has been waiting for...
Element fate.
~~~~~~~~
The world is now divided into elements. This separation is what brings peace among our kind. When a child turns 13, their fate is decided. There is five elements that each child will be brought upon. If the child's element is different then the family's, they do not have to go to their elements district. But when of age, most users end up going because it helps them further their development and skills. The elements is what brings peace into our world and defends us from the darkness.
Water: Is used for healing
Earth: Is used for construction
Air: Is used for the seasons
Fire: Is our battle force
Spirit: unknown
Each play a part in our daily lives and some come with a greater risk then others.
Excited chatter filled the room as my brother and sister started to bring out the element tools. I quietly sat in the middle of a circle with a goofy grin, planted onto my face. My parents smiled widely as they clasped hands and looked at their soon to be, water gifted daughter. Dad came from a strong line of water users and mom was a royal bloodline as well.
My brother Isaac, was named a water user five years ago and my older sister soon followed behind.
I was the last of my line to have my element fate done. I was basically guaranteed to have water as my element.
The tools were placed around me as I shut my eyes. A bowl of water, a rock, a feather and a candle were spread in front of me. I let my soul and body guide me as my body heat started to rise. I automatically aimed for the water element but when I touched the water, it stung my finger like a third-degree burn. Every time I would touch the wrong element, my body would convulse in pain. Just before I could succumb to the pain, my fingers accidentally brushed against the candle. A bolt of electricity shot from my fingertips and into my arms.
Snapping my eyes open, I stared at the fire element in disbelief as it started to melt and became tinted with black. I quickly threw it across the room before looking up at my family. They stared at me with horror and fear as I took a step towards them.
"Mom, Dad?"
"Isaac? Mary?"
"What's happening?"
A gut wrenching sob escaped my mother's mouth and my siblings glared at me,
"She can't be! This is absurd!"
My dad didn't even attempt to console her before he hatefully whispered,
"She is a spirit and fire user."
"What are you talking about?" I whispered before looking down at my hands and gasping.
They were stained in black.
I desperately tried to wipe it off on my jeans but it wouldn't budge. Both hands were covered in a jet, black, from the tips of my fingers to the beginning of my wrist. A fire sign was carved into the middle of both of my palms and tears brimmed my eyes. My parent looked away from me in fear as my sibling looked at me as if I were a stranger.
"This doesn't change anything".
As soon as the words left my mouth, I knew how wrong they were.
This changed everything.
And more.
