"One hundred years ago, a great tragedy struck that school. But that was the past, wasn't it? You're going to do wonderful things, Katsu."
My mother's words played in my mind on repeat, much like a broken record. It was the only thing I really had to keep me going; she was the only one who really believed in me in this situation. I couldn't stop the downcast feeling as I continued to gaze out the window, taking in the city and all of its luxurious glamour.
Kiboseiiki; Hope Sanctuary.
The town was named during its rebuilding after the Ultimate Hope, Makoto Naegi. It was one hundred years ago that the Biggest, Most Awful, Most Tragic Event in Human History (capitalized because it was such a big deal) occurred. It was him and his friends who put a stop to...oh, what was her name? Junko Enoshima? Her and her influence.
But that was a long time ago. Now over a century later, Hope's Peak Academy, the school behind the mess, was back on top with their 178th class enrolling. Their headmaster, Mirai Naegi, was the great grandchild of Makoto Naegi and Kyoko Kirigiri. Now in his late thirties, he had recruited twelve Ultimate Students (also capitalized because of how mind blowing it clearly is) to attend this class.
Of course, it's been awhile since this story has been told...you may need a refresher. In order to attend school at Hope's Peak Academy, you need to fit two criteria. You must be in high school (unless you're in the elementary course), and you must be the very best at what you do. These very special and talented individuals the government puts all their money into instead of spending it wisely are...well, Ultimates.
And I wasn't a big fan of them.
Hope's Peak was known for having students set for life. Just for being some kind of special snowflake, you'd get to breeze through the school year without even having to show up to class. All you had to do was be on campus and you could do whatever you want, and on top of that you'd get loads of money for barely putting in a lick of effort.
Ironically, though, that's sort of why I'm here. I'm attending Hope's Peak Academy to do exactly this...but not under the same circumstances as them.
