18. in too deep (ja)

"i won't do it."

i looked into jack's chocolate covered eyes, filled with some sort of disappointment. the glassy ocean waves crashed onto my legs as i held my sticky surfboard.

jack had been trying to get me to learn how to surf for the longest time, but my fears always got the best of me. even now, when i felt so safe especially with him, i was scared of the ocean. what can i say? i barely even knew how to swim.

"y/n, come over here, he said, leading me back to our towels and umbrella, set up safe on the sandy shore. he sat me down, pulling a piece of my stringy blonde hair behind my ear. "you can do it, i know you can," he said softly. jack was never like this. he was usually the one to throw me into the ocean for the sharks. but, this side of him was quiet, compassionate. this was the side of him i truly fell in love with, other than his free spirit and natural charisma.

"but, jack, i can't...i just...don't believe in myself, honestly," i said, leaning back into his shoulder. "well, i do. i think you can do anything. do you know why, babe?" he said, turning to me, as he kissed my forehead.

"i'm in too deep, you see. don't know what you did to me, but i'm living like a new person. i'm not scared of anything, because of you." he said, running his fingers through my saltwater sprayed hair.

"i really had that much of an effect on you?" i said, laughing softly at his poetic banter.

he laughed softly, kissing my sunkissed cheek, "i heard your siren's call, and babe, it was beautiful. now i'm drowning, and, oh, please don't save me," he said, as our lips moved closer. i felt our lips touch like a wave crashing onto the shore.

he was my underwater symphony.

eventually, we pulled away as i finally made up my mind.

"i guess i'm diving right in," i said, smiling. i picked up my surfboard, ready to try again. i knew i had a treasure chest boyfriend, filled with the most valuable diamonds any girl could as for. i don't mind drowning with him.

his love gives me all my air.
