The team takes the entire day to rest. They sleep all day long, recuperating and healing. They had exhausted themselves completely. That was their first real battle with a vampire on a real battlefield. They had fought hounds countless times and often fought captured vampires as part of their training when they were still cadets in the academy. Gradually they healed up, and after a large dinner, they were good as new. Jenny who was the least bit waned went hunting for meat, she killed a buffalo and dragged it back to camp. After it was well roasted, they went from famished to full, and all that was left of the buffalo was bones, horns and hooves. They consumed it all, along with their normal ration. This was to be expected as initially, they had all noticed an increase in their appetite after the surgery. They consume a lot to make up for the extra work their body does and the extra energy it produces. Other than a high metabolism rate, they have alarmingly large appetites. This was to make up for their increase in strength, agility, and regeneration. It would also be expected if they consumed considerably more after a very exhausting activity.
Jeremy belched, as he sat on the ground, his back against one of the huge tires of the Humvee. Antonia who was sitting directly above him inside the vehicle's backseat smacked his head. "Man, come on," she complained. They all laughed.
Mark takes a sip from his water flask... "Listen up squad one. Today you showed me the result of your training, you showed me what you are all capable of. Every class, every training, every sparring has been to bring out the best in you. Today you were tested to your limits, today you know what it means to be a warrior. You achieved all you did today because you have your teammates. You all did well." They all say nice things to their captain, and the overly energetic Jun gets up and takes a bow for his captain. They laugh and Mark continues, "tomorrow is going to be even more of a test. We could either decide to wait for back up or continue with the assignment. Although I reckon they'll notice that their comrades are missing. Its protocol to check in with with the commanding unit on missions to monitor your progress, except for when you absolutely have to maintain radio silence. But these fuckers underestimate us, their arrogance would not let them think that any human resistance would be trouble enough to force them into radio silence. Either way, they would want to know what went wrong. I prefer we take the fight to them and use the element of surprise to our advantage. There are considerably more of them than us, as I heard from the older vampire. Which brings me to the question, squad one, should we head back home or..."
"Boss, I know you're not about asking us to turn back because you're considering if we're okay. I know if you were alone, you wouldn't head back...'" Interrupts Kuma.
Mark interrupts him, "and I would have gotten myself killed in the process."
Reina speaks up, "Hanchou If you felt like it's something we can't handle you would just ask us to get ready to return to base."
"Yes, I think Reina is right, Hanchou, if you wanted us to head back that's just what you would have done, adds Jenny.
"Tanya, Krash?" says Mark Inquiring of their opinions. In his team other than his two immediate subordinates, Mark invaluably trusts the opinion of this ruthless Soviet Woman. She is calm and collected and thinks things out rationally before acting. Furthermore, she and Kuma are tied on the fourth strongest on their team, two points below Reina.
With her Slavic accent, she speaks, "well, capitan, these assholes have messed up my hair," she says, pointing at the chimaeras. Mark is surprised at her reason but allows her to go on. "I haven't had enough of their blood yet and I've so many bullets. I think we should check it out and see if it's possible. if not, we come back with another squad or two to wipe their assess off the face of the earth.
"I think I'll go with Tanya's opinion," adds Krash. Mark is satisfied with this response, but further asks the rest of the team. They all agree on going.
