Monday, 14th of January

~ Keith ~

I walked down the street, hands stuffed in my pockets, looking up at the bright blue sky. Has it already been a week...

I'd arrived here last Monday. It was Monday again. And I'd only gotten one detention. That was weird. I'd thought I'd be out of this place by Friday or at least on my last warning.

But here I was, actually willingly moving my feet towards the school. Why wasn't I skipping it? Why was I actually going to that hell hole?

I considered this as I walked across the road, engrossed in my thoughts. I didn't want any future. I didn't want anything. I just wanted the world to all stop, even just for a second. I didn't have a purpose for existing. I didn't have a reason to keep living for a future I didn't even want.

So why was I here?

I suddenly heard the loud noise of a car horn and saw a truck coming towards me.

Everything happened so fast.

I saw the headlights shining in my eyes.

The driver frantically honked on the horn as I stood there, too stunned to move.

Someone yelled my name.

I was shoved out of the way and next thing I knew, I was lying on the street as the truck drove by.

Okay. Well. Wow.

I was completely dumbfounded. What had just happened? There had been a truck and then someone...

The person who'd saved me was in front of me, sitting in a w sit, leaning on his wrists, head hanging as he panted for air.

Lance.

"I made it in time..." he breathed. "I made it in time...thank god...I made it in time..." he then snapped his head up to look at me, eyes huge. "What were you thinking?! It's dangerous to just walk out onto the road! You could have been killed!"

I was at a complete loss for words.

He grabbed my shoulders and shook me. "Keith?! Speak to me, Keith! Did you hit your head?! Do we need an ambulance?!"

"Lance...stop...getting...dizzy..."

He stopped but he kept a grip on my shoulders. "Are you okay?"

"Y...yeah...I...I didn't...sorry..."

"You better be! Don't you know how scared I was when I saw you just standing there with a truck about to hit you?!" He sighed, slumping his shoulders. "I was so scared I wasn't gonna get here in time. You didn't hear me when-"

"Lance."

"Huh?"

"Just..."

I knew what I wanted to say. But my voice wouldn't let me say those words. It just wouldn't.

So I lowered my head, looked down and spoke quietly. "Nothing."

"Okay, but don't you think synchronised dances would be kinda fun in real life?"

"No, for the last time, I don't," Keith snapped as he began pulling out his gym clothes. "I don't understand why everyone thinks it makes sense to just suddenly start dancing in movies and why no one we know ever questions it. They're a dumb idea, just talk and walk things out, there, done."

"I think it'd be pretty cool!" I tried a little tap dance on the spot. "Come on, Keith!"

"Stop making a scene."
