Silence. All I hear is silence for what feels like an eternity. I've been listening intently for anything coming out of Amy's hospital room. Nothing. I fear the worst. What if she's dead? No...no she can't be.
I sit slouched over in a chair outside of her room. My head hangs low on my shoulders as I feel the weight of the world growing heavier on me with each passing minute. Suddenly, I hear footsteps growing closer. A lot of them. A group of doctors come rushing towards me. I faintly hear a nurse inside Amy's room call 'Code Blue'. I feel my heart sink as the doctors rush inside Amy's room.
Code blue...that means Amy's gone into cardiac arrest! No God please no...don't take her away from me! I can't lose her, not like this!
I peer through the window, watching as the doctors try desperately to save her. Watching them use the defibrillator on her broke my heart. I feel tears swelling in my eyes and I can't hold them back.
"AMY!"
--------------------------------------------------------------
I sit beside her bed, holding her hand tightly. I feel like if I don't hold her hand tightly enough, she'll slip away again. It's been an hour since they got her heart beating again. When I went in after they brought her back, I couldn't help but wrap my arms around her, despite it being against the doctor's wishes.
"Amy, wake up. Please..."
What if she never wakes up. What if I lose her for good?
What if she does wake up, but she doesn't remember me?
I try to shake these thoughts out of my head. I couldn't bear the thought of any of those situations becoming a reality.
She has to wake up.
She has to remember me.
I hear the door open and I turn to face the people who enter. It's Tails, Knuckles, Cream, and Silver.
Tails approaches me and puts his hand on my shoulder. "Shadow and Blaze would've come too, but they're still away on a mission. They wanted us to give you and Amy their regards." I nod my head and turn back to face Amy. I hold her hand up to my face and I hold it there. If it were still just me here, I would've cried, but now that I- we have company, I have to show I'm strong. At least, I need to show an illusion of me being strong.
Silver approaches Amy on the other side of the hospital bed and he brushes her hair off to the side. "Has anything happened since she's been here?"
"She went into cardiac arrest not long after I brought her here. The doctors managed to save her, but it was too close for comfort. They almost gave up on her." I chocked back tears as I spoke those words, the memory still burning within my mind. Tails must've heard it because not long after he wrapped his arms around me, offering me comfort.
"She's going to be okay Sonic. She's strong. She'll get through this, and we'll be with her when she does."
I hope so Tails. I hope so.
