"I knew right from the start that Chayse was not who you thought he was." The brown-eyed man states, keeping his eye contact with me intensely."His voice was so distinct and I recognised it immediately when you brought him to the compound," He continues, interlacing his hands together in his lap, "I... I couldn't bring myself to tell you. I know now that I was delaying the inevitable by keeping it a secret, but I couldn't."
"I knew it was him because he was the one that was there when I woke up at the Haven the first time. He tortured me because they wanted to know where you were." His words are choked at the end and my eyes widen.
This is all my fault. Tony was in excruciating pain. And it is all my fault.
"Look, if you want to talk, talk. But we need to get out of here. Then we can discuss more when we get home. I hacked into that phone we took so now we can call someone." He sighs, pulling my jacket further over his shoulders as I nod.
"I... I just want him to pay for what he's done. That's all. How much pain he has caused. How much I hate him for what he did to me. And to you." I look down to my hands tightly closed, knuckles turning pale.
"I'm sorry." He says, getting off the bed and putting a hand on my shoulder. I look up at him and we share the quiet for a few seconds before he pats my shoulder and moves away.
"I want a decent coffee before we leave. I saw a coffee shop on the way in and I was thinking maybe we could go there before we do anything." He says, grabbing his sunglasses. He then takes off my jacket and throws it at me.
"Are you coming?"
"It's too dangerous, Stark..." I catch the jacket and move it aside to answer. He groans as he slips on his hoodie.
"Can we not have a little time to relax whilst we're here?" His head lulls backwards in what I'm guessing annoyance.
I rub my face, thinking about it for a second. I mean, if we keep a low profile, maybe it might be worthwhile.
"...fine. We need to stay low though. Don't go throwing your name around." I try to keep a straight face as Tony does a little celebration dance.
I stare at the smaller man as a smile creeps along my face. I stand and put my jacket on, before following suit behind Tony.
The cold hit's us as we walk outside, realising that it had started to rain whilst we were indoors. I gaze out to the town as we make our way down the creaky steps and onto the wet street a few strides away.
My hands burrow themselves deep into my jacket's fur-lined pockets in an attempt to keep themselves warm.
"Gosh, Canada is quite cold at this time of year, isn't it?" I observe, glancing over at the genius as he nods his head.
The rest of the walk is peaceful, the rain pitter-pattering on my cap and his hoodie, our feet splashing water aside as we hurry along to shelter.
The coffee shop is warm and completely empty when we get there, which is strange considering the time of day.
We sit at a small table in the corner of the homey cafe, getting as comfortable as we can before the petite waitress trots on over to take our orders.
"Good-morning' gentleman. What can I do for yea?" She asks, her joyful spirit making a tiny grin appear for under my cap.
I nod towards Tony and she smiles his way.
"Double-shot espresso with a dash of cream. And can I ask if you by any chance have doughnuts?" He questions, tilting his head slightly as he looks up at her over his glasses.
