Life am I, right? Anyway, I wanted to get back into this book, will be trying out third person past tense from now on, let me know how it goes!

"Steven!"

A familiar voice called the tall man, making him turn his head from his drink. Natasha waved him over, her silk floor-length gown fitting her nicely. He smiled, leaving his drink with his empty seat.
The blond was greeted by many, but his mind was preoccupied as he spoke to the strangers. The person he was here to escort had disappeared at the start of the event, he hadn't thought of following him at the time, but now he kinda regretted it. Nat noticed his drifting eyes, laughing at the others as she squeezed his shoulder.

"Sorry about him, he's still a bit shaken from the last mission."

Her smile brightened up the guests, their expensive dressage making it seem like the two avengers were out of place. Steve looked down at the woman, his blue eyes dark in the lit room. She motioned towards the bathroom and he nodded, excusing himself with his charming smile.
Walking away was difficult, a lot of people tried to stop him, he politely apologized to them as he made his way to find his date.
'Date?' He thought, furrowing his eyebrows. It sure did seem like something like that, I mean, the expensive suit, the invitation, the scarce looks exchanged between the two.
Steve rubbed his neck as a way to cool down, he was thinking too far into it at this point. The bathroom signs pointed him towards a corridor, the sounds of classical music and chatting fading away as he pushed the door open. Clean, as expected, but empty, besides a stall with some crude noises coming from behind the closed door.
The super soldier blushed, he was already so flustered tonight.
'Come on Tony... Where are you..?'
He smelt smoke, not like a fire, but nicotine, as he left the bathroom. It came from further down the corridor. But he thought Tony didn't smoke? He hadn't seen the genius anywhere else, it was worth a try.
The hall exited out into a balcony, overlooking the river. There were very few people out here, all with a lit smoke, the tiny fires looking like fake fireflies in the darkness. One person, however, stood leaning against the rails, looking out into the distance.

"Tony?"

The man flinched, his stance softening when he realised who it was.

"Hey Rogers.."

Tony seemed distant, not taking a glance even when the blond leant next to him. Steve didn't seem very interested in the view. He was worried, his eyebrows permanently sewn together when he was with the other man.

"I thought this was meant to be a date."

Steve poked him, chuckling. His voice, low and soft, made the brunet inwardly shiver. The thought of this being something like a date made Tony's mind wander.

"A date? Imagine that.."

Tony laughed back, shaking his head. Oh, how he wished that was a possibility. The blond couldn't resist teasing him. Steve didn't even know how he made the man writhe, how he made the man question every fibre of his being.

"Why are you here?"

Steve asked after a while of watching him. All of the people had finished their smoking break at that point, leaving to rejoin the gala. It was just them. Steve didn't want to think further. It was bad enough that he felt this way.

It was like they were both teenagers again. Enemies to friends, friends for years. Now they had something that they could call theirs and theirs alone, the trauma that they went through together. They came to each other for everything. Something was happening, something either sparked or clicked. But at this point it was mutual, they just hadn't figured it out yet. They felt something. And, being as stubborn as they are, probably wouldn't find out for a while.

"Don't really like parties anymore. Not my crowd anyway."

'You're my crowd.' He would think.

"I get it. I don't like them either."

Steve answered, nodding his head as he looked out to the river as well. They stood for a while, almost unbearably long in the comfortable silence.
At some point Tony took a glance at the other man, not being able to stand being so stubborn anymore. Steve looked right back, his eyes kind as he lifted the corner of his lip in a grin. Tony couldn't help but smile back, both of them laughing quietly.

"Ya know, I'm glad we are this close now."

Tony chuckled, punching the captain in the shoulder playfully. Steve raised an eyebrow.

"Why is that?"

"I got to know more about you. You're pretty interesting, Cap."

The taller man shook his head. He couldn't stop grinning, his face was starting to ache.

"Right back at you."

Another moment was shared in silence, Tony breaking it at last by tapping the other man's shoe.

"Let's get out of here. I know a bar downtown that serves some strong stuff. It might finally get you tipsy."

Tony leaned out and grabbed the corner of Steve's sleeve, pulling him as he walked back inside. The blond complied, excited about where this night would take them.

I know it's short, but I wanted to update you guys on how I have improved writing! Hopefully I can keep up a regular schedule this time haha
