~Eddie's Point of View~

I leaned on the railing of the large wooden balcony, looking out at the beautiful mountain range as loud music and bright lights blared behind me. It was New Years Eve, and the Ski Resort I had been staying in was throwing a party to celebrate the upcoming year. I've never really been much of a party person, so I found my way out here to get away from the noisy crowd. The air was cold and crisp and stung my lungs, the sky was dotted with stars and the moon shined down on the smooth snow below. This was the perfect setting to think.

As I stared out at the scenery and let my mind begin to wander, I heard the door open behind me. I turned and was greeted by the sight of a dark headed boy, feeling around for something in his pockets. I squinted my eyes in an attempt to get a better look at him. He had thick rimmed glasses that magnified his mud brown eyes, messy hair, and had some of the prettiest freckles I've ever seen.

He looked up, having found what he was looking for. I quickly turned around, feeling rude and a little embarrassed for staring. He let out a slight chuckle "Like what you see?" the boy said as he walked over to join me. "Uh s-sure." I mumbled. "The names Richie, Richie Tozier. And who might you be, Angsty-Balcony-Boy?"

"Eddie." I reply softly. "Well then, Eds, what brings you out here?" he says jokingly. I turn my head to look at him, "It's Eddie, and I'm not to found of big crowds. What's your reason for being out here?" "I needed to clear my mind for a moment." he replies as he pulls out a box of cigarettes from his pocket. He tilted the box in my direction in an attempt to offer one. I simply wave my hand and say "No Thanks". He shrugs in response and pockets the box, now fishing around for what I assume is a lighter.

It was quiet between us for a moment, then after taking a long drag, Richie started humming some song I couldn't recognize. It was soothing, nonetheless. My gaze shifted over more in the strange boys direction and I listened to him hum for a while longer.

A loud "10, 9, 8..." could now be heard coming from the crowd inside. Richie flicked his cigarette over the edge, then quickly turned and ran inside, obviously not wanting to miss out on the action. I rolled my eyes and felt my lips pull into a faint smile. "...7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...Happy New Year!"

Fireworks had started going off over head, which drew out a large crowd of people to the deck. Flashes of bright greens, blues and reds illuminated the dark sky. I felt a hand on my shoulder and nearly jumped out of my skin. I turned to face none other than Richie, who had a big, stupid grin plastered on his face.

"Hey Eds!" he shouted "Mind if I get your number?" He pulled his phone out of his pocket and waved it around in my face for a second before I grabbed it and handed him mine. After he had tapped in his number, we traded back and he grinned an even bigger, stupider grin, then turned his attention to the sky. I looked up at him one last time before turning to leave.
