"what high school are you attending this year, baek?" chanyeol asked, breaking the comfortable silence as his knees met the ground as he looked through movie disks from his shelf right below his television."seongkyu high school." baekhyun replied from the kitchen, busy preparing snacks.
"aw that sucks, i'm going to seoul preforming arts." chanyeol said, slightly disappointed. "it would've been fun if we went to the same high school."
"seoul preforming arts? why there?" baekhyun asked, curious.
"i want to become like my father. he was a musician." the taller's fingers glazed through the movie disk cover. "do you want to watch this one?" he held the disk up, high in the air for baekhyun to see.
baekhyun squinted his eyes, an action chanyeol thought was funny. "sure!" the older was in the middle of placing the popcorn bag inside the microwave when he felt a licking sensation on his feet. his head instantly shot down. chanyeol was in the middle of setting the disk inside the cd player until he heard a loud screech.
"you sound like a girl, baekhyun." chanyeol chuckled, walking into the kitchen area, where he found baekhyun, looking scared shitless. "what's wrong–." he paused. he eyes landed on a dog–his humongous dog affectionately licking the other's feet. "he likes you," chanyeol cooed.
"take him away!" baekhyun covered his eyes, turning the other way. he made this shooing motion with his hand.
"do you not like dogs." chanyeol asked, roughly stroking his big baby's grey and white coat. when baekhyun didn't respond, chanyeol took his dog, bubbie, by his collar, leading him to his crate.
"i'm scared of them." baekhyun finally said, exhaling out of relief. baekhyun took a napkin and started wiping down his feet in disgust.
"how?" chanyeol asked, almost surprised. "well, can't relate because i grew up with animals, including a ferret."he shrugged, walking back to the living room as baekhyun took out the bag of popcorn from the microwave. baekhyun flashed him a weirded out look, plopping onto the couch. he watched chanyeol press some buttons on the cd player until the film started playing.
it was around half an hour into the movie before baekhyun squeezed his eyes shut. "these horror movies are lame."
chanyeol ket his eyes on the screen. "keep watching, this is the good part."
baekhyun reluctantly snapped his eyes open. a dog came into view and baekhyun screamed. incredulously, chanyeol whipped his head in baekhyun's direction.
"this isn't even the scary part..."
"it is for me." baekhyun looked away, gripping onto the pillow he's been holding since the movie started. his hand reached for the bag of popcorn, accidentally tipping it over, spilling it onto the couch.
"my bad." he muttered, standing the bag up and gathered the fallen pieces of the snack.
the whole house was pitch black, "too set the mood" as chanyeol says. the raven haired boy was making his way off the couch and to the kitchen to throw away the popcorn while feeling his way around the unfamiliar house. he felt the hairs on his neck stand up after flinching when he passed by the dog kennel. "woof!"
baekhyun was walking around the place in such a slow manner and despite the darkness around the house, chanyeol noticed his troublesome face. standing up from his seat, he appeared behind the shorter, guiding him by placing both hands on his shoulders, whispering. "you really are a scaredy cat." a chuckle followed.
"i'm just trying not to die in your house if i accidentally slip and fall." baekhyun retorted, rolling his eyes. his gentle touch granted him more confidence, finally lifting up the cover of the trashbin with his free hand, discarding the food away. he swiftly turned around, his face was an inch away from chanyeol's. the two stayed in that position for some time, and the awkward air grew more and more.
"you have big eyes." blurted baekhyun, not knowing what else to say.
"people say they get lost in my eyes." he smirked, being the first to move away.
"true, your eyes are so huge that anyone can get lost, it can pass as a country–."
"shut up and get your ass back to the living room." he cut in, throwing an arm around baekhyun's shoulders, playfully.
-
the clock read eleven at night when the movie had finally come to an end. baekhyun pushed himself off the couch, bringing both his arms up, reaching for the sky as he stretched his limbs, a yawn escaped his lips in the midst.
"tired?" chanyeol asked from the couch.
"tired from sitting on that couch the whole time." baekhyun snorted, smiling. "i should go though..." he glanced toward his phone.
chanyeol's eyes drooped, bummed that he had to go already, but nodded nonetheless. it wasn't like he was his slave or anything, forbidding him to go home.
"how are you getting home? it's late." chanyeol asked, eyeing the pondering male.
"i can walk, my house isn't too far from here."
"knowing you, walking alone in the middle of the night unprotected is a red flag. i'll come with you." chanyeol stated.
"chanyeol–."
"it's fine, don't want you getting kidnapped or anything."
"i'm actually trained in hapkido..."
chanyeol shot him a warning look, "just let me walk you to your damn house, baek."
the said boy raised his hands up, surrendering.
"and what if a dog jumped out from nowhere and you screamed because you're scared of dogs but your scream only attracted a serial killer, so then both the dog and the serial killer chased after you for two different reasons?" chanyeol rambled, only receiving a sigh in response.
"that's very possible..." he whispered to himself, slouching his shoulders.
chanyeol slipped on a coat he brought over from a nearby closet. "let's go."
-
the two were silently walking down the dark streets down to baekhyun's neighborhood, which was only a ten minute walk from chanyeol's house to his.
"are you single?" that was a question that surprised baekhyun.
"m-me?" he croaked, shocked at the straightforward question.
"who else? the dog behind you?" immediately, the older boy turned to look behind him, only to be fooled.
"stop joking about my fear of dogs." he demanded, looking too serious for chanyeol's liking. "–but yeah, i'm single and free, why?"
"just thought a guy like you would have a girlfriend or something." chanyeol shrugged, looking his way.
baekhyun swallowed his saliva that built up in his throat. "a guy like me?"
chanyeol looked up at the night sky, admiring the bright moon. "i mean, you're blessed with good looks, did you know that?"
he cleared his throat, feeling his cheeks redden. "thanks." he mumbled, looking down at his shoes with mixed emotions. "you too, i guess."
"you're such a bad liar." the taller laughed.
"shut up, freak." his lips curved upward, only slightly. there was a mischievous glint in both their eyes.
"do people at your school like bob ross? since you go to an arts high school." baekhyun piped up, tilting his head.
"stupid question, but maybe. you kinda look like him, baek." chanyeol lightly bumped baekhyun's shoulder with his. "you both have fluffy looking hair, kind eyes, and you can almost see your beard growing–." he was interrupted mid sentence by baekhyun's "hey!"
"bob ross was a great man but i think you're going overboard!" baekhyun exclaimed, annoyed almost.
"you're a good guy, too."
