It's a couple days after the Ouran fair and (Y/n) can't help but glance at the Hitachiin twins every instance she gets. During the study sessions; during math when she finishes her work early; during the lectures of the history teacher. She gazes at them, trying to find any little detail that sets them apart. She's kind of amazed no teacher has reprimanded her yet with her frequently drifting attention. But while the teachers may not notice, that doesn't mean others won't.

"So..." Naoki starts as they are seated once more in the rose garden during lunch, "You've been looking at the twins an awful lot." She wiggles her eyebrows, a smug grin on her face as she stares at (Y/n) across the stone table.

The breath gets caught in her throat and she almost chokes on her own spit. Furiously coughing, (Y/n) looks at Naoki, who is trying her best to contain her giggles.

Well there was no denying it now...

"Ah, euhm... Yeah, I guess," (Y/n) says, her gaze focussed on her food, "I just spoke to one of them a couple days ago and I guess he intrigued me..."

Naoki eyes her suspiciously, "And that's it?"

At her question, a blush forms on her friend's face. Still not facing Naoki, she answers, "Well, yeah? I guess... Does there have to be another reason?"

Naoki's previous grin returns tenfold as she eggs her friend on more, "Well yeah, can't you just tell me "I'm hopelessly in love with them" or something like that?"

Her speech being over exaggerated as she tries to act out the part of a lovestruck girl.

(Y/n) finally looks up at her, taking a bit before laughter tries to escape her lips. She covers her mouth as she hunches over. "Pffft! Please Naoki don't be ridiculous. Me? Love them?"

She looks up again, tears in the corners of her eyes, and small giggles escaping between her words. "I don't even know the name of one of them. I don't even know them! I'm not going to fall for people who I don't know anything about."

Naoki pouts at her, puffing out her cheeks in a childish way as she playfully glares at (Y/n). "Buzzkill," she accuses, not being able to wipe the growing smile of her face.

That evening, (Y/n) is seated at the dining table with her parents. Everything goes on as usual. Her mother and father discuss work and upcoming events they have to attend. (Y/n) just tunes them out as she enjoys her luxurious meal, savoring every bite, until her mother redirects the conversation to her.

"So how was school the past few weeks, darling? Did anything interesting happen with the Ouran fair going on?"

A short silence follows as (Y/n) puts her utensils down while trying to formulate her answer in her mind. "It was fine, nothing really out of the ordinary happened."

She focuses back on her food, until after not even a minute one occurrence comes back to her. She timidly speaks up again, trying to grab the attention of her mother, "Oh, but I did speak to Kaoru Hitachiin once."

More silence follows as her parents stare at her with their mouths agape.

"Hi-hitachiin? Did you just say Hitachiin?" Her mother wonders outloud. She turns to her husband, her eyes shining bright and a big smile quickly forming on her lips. She's too starstruck to say anything at first, but looking back at her daughter she can't help but let out a blissful sigh and state, "I'm so proud of you, darling."

(Y/n) blushes and plays with her food as a smile forms on her face. It might have not been the greatest accomplishment, but any kind of praise was nice.
