"Rosetta, are you up there?" I hear my mom calling from below, "Is there someone with you, I hear other voices?"
"Yes mom, it's a friend from school. We're just doing some homework." I call back to her.
"Is there any way you can make yourself look younger?" I say to Susana.
"Yes I can, just a moment" she replies as she prepares her rune book.
I climb down the ladder to talk to my mom and buy some time.
"Where is your friend?" asks my my mom.
"She is gathering her things, she'll be down in a second"
I hear the tree house door close and look up to see a young woman about my age, with blond curly hair, fair complexion and wearing a very dated outfit, something that looks like it belongs more in the medieval times than in the 21st century.
"My she certainly has good taste." My mom says holding back a snicker.
"Yeah, she's really into cosplay" I respond, quickly dismissing further prodding.
My mom, seeming to be satisfied with my response says, "I just wanted to see if you girls wanted a snack."
"No mom, we're fine. We've got food in the tree house, thanks anyway."
As I begin to turn away and head back up the ladder to the tree house Susana stops me and gives me a look that tells me I should just trust her in whatever is about to happen.
"Excuse me Mrs.Budraker, I was wondering if you would be okay if Rose and I could go on a trip together. It's part of a group project Mr.Gale has us working on."
My mother, looking as though she is about to object, freezes and I can Susana marking something in her rune book. When she finishes my mother's expression shifts from one of disapproval to one of approval.
"Yes that is perfectly fine, take as long as you need." She says, sounding almost like a robot.
"Come on lets go." Susana says as she grabs me by the arm and drags me to the side of the house.
Susana pulls out her rune book and marks out the rune that apparently making her look like a senior in high school, because as she does she returns to her former self. Then she takes her stylus and begins to draw what looks like a door on the dark red bricks that make up the outside wall of my bedroom. She then draws one large symbol in the middle, this symbol consisting of two infinity symbols with a line through the middle of both.
As she finishes the last stroke the bricks collapse and a bright light shines through this newly formed hole in the wall.
