Goro didn't struggle. It's human instinct to struggle when you're submerged underwater and feel your breath escaping you. But the detective seemed to smiled as he sunk through the water, the air bubbles coming from his face becoming less frequent and nonexistent as his body lost any hopes of breathing.
Akira shot up in a cold sweat. What the fuck. He grabbed his phone. 2:47 on a Monday morning, the 12th of August. He unlocked his phone and immediately called one of his most frequent contacts: Goro Akechi, his boyfriend.
The sound of ringing only made him anxious. Akira grasped the covers of his bed, holding them tight. His breathing was shallow as he waited for something, anything other than that incessant ringing.
The phone clicked. On the other end of the line, he heard a groggy "Hello?" Akira let out a sigh of relief, releasing his grip on the cover and nearly dropping his phone. The detective was alive and well.
"Did I wake you up?" Akira asked, his voice still calming down from waking up in terror. He couldn't remember the last time a stupid nightmare affected him, especially not enough to wake him up. He couldn't flee to his parents' room to wake them up and comfort him, so time to try that with his boyfriend.
"What do you think?" Goro asked. He audibly yawned on the other side. "Is there something you need or did you just want to interrupt my dream?"
Akira perked up at the mention of a dream. Maybe he was also having a weird dream! That was probably a thing; a night where a lot of people had freaky dreams. "Aha, weird question, but what were you dreaming of?" he asked, trying to play it cool as possible.
A tired groan came from the other side of the call. "I dunno... I don't even remember it. You woke me up. I think I was in a school or something...? It was a nice dream, so I dunno why you had to interrupt it..." Goro mumbled, trailing off at the end. He yawned again "Babe, I'd love to stay up and hear your voice, but if you don't need anything, I'm gonna go back to sleep, okay?"
Akira's shoulders slumped. So he had been delusional. It was just a stupid dream, and he knew that, but he thought talking to Goro would clear something up about it. He had hoped his partner would describe something just as weird and vivid to let him know that he wasn't alone.
"Sorry I woke you. Sweet dreams. I love you," he said. He heard Goro repeat the last part to him and then hit the glowing red button to hang up. He tossed his phone off of the bed, not caring if it cracked a bit. He was way too hung up over a stupid dream!
The sound of the phone clattering on the ground startled the cat at the foot of his bed. "You better be sorry! You woke both of us!" Morgana chided. The cat tilted its head to the side. "Why did you call him? That's kinda weird, dontcha think?"
Akira sighed. "I just had a bad dream and wanted to hear his voice," he said, rolling over to face away from where his phone had been launched.
"Aw man, you're lucky." Morgana chuckled and stretched. "I wish I could wake up to hear Lady Ann's sweet voice..."
The messy haired boy raised his eyebrows. Mona gave him and idea. He scrambled out of bed to grab his phone. Miraculously, it hadn't suffered too badly; just a few scratches. Pulling up his messenger, he texted Ann."Hey, I need your horoscope knowledge. Can we meet up tomorrow?"
"Today?"
"Whenever Sunday is?"
"I'm not looking at my clock."Then he set his phone down on his nightstand, climbing back into bed. It was a lot more comforting going to bed knowing that he'd be able to talk about his freaky dream to someone. "Goodnight Mona," he hummed, closing his eyes and eventually drifting off.
