ASIDE FROM THE obvious 'being a superhero' thing, Connie had one other talent: sewing. That's how she created the Star-Girl costume, by stealing fabric from her school's under funded home economics and theatre departments and using her grandma's old sewing machine to make the black catsuit with yellow stars adorned on them. The stars were originally meant to be threatening, to look like the stars that someone would see when they got knocked out, but they ended up being more cutesy than anything, and Connie just rolled with it. To top it off, she stopped off at the dollar store to pick up a cheap long, neon yellow wig (and about a thousand bobby pins to keep it in place), and a black mask to conceal her identity as much as possible. As an addition to the look that Connie used solely for aesthetic purposes, she invested in a good black lipstick that wouldn't smudge, even when she was kicking ass and taking names.

Star-Girl was the only superhero known to America, however, the girl herself knew of two others that kept under the radar: Hit Girl and Big Daddy. She ran into the two when she went to go beat up some thugs that she saw harassing a girl who was trying to walk home, and ever since, they've had some sort of understanding that whenever either party needed help, the other would be there. Connie had found out their identities pretty quickly, as had the father-daughter duo of Damon and Mindy Macready with Connie. At first, Connie was wary of Mindy's involvement with such violence considering her age, but she quickly realised that Mindy was much more capable and mature than someone else her age would be.

Connie felt it comforting that if she was overwhelmed in a fight, Hit Girl and Big Daddy would always have her back, and Star-Girl would always have their backs, although they rarely needed it with Hit Girl being in on the meelee attacks and Big Daddy standing from afar with his sniper, it was still reassuring to the girl.

She never really had a reason for becoming a superhero other than the fact that she was a major comic book nerd that was obsessed with Harley Quinn, but couldn't find it in herself to become a villain, so she stuck with being more like Batgirl instead. She practically begged her parents to let her take self defence and martial arts classes, and took it upon herself to acquire some weapons of her own that she definitely hid from her dads (and thanks to the Macreadys, they were very easily hidden).

Connie loved being a superhero, she loved getting all of her teen angst out by beating up creepy men that cat called women in alleyways, she loved kicking the asses of people that attempted to steal from her local convenience store, she loved busting down the doors of people that dealt hard drugs to recovering addicts, and she especially loved being able to protect herself and her friends.

So that's why, as she looked at Dave's unconscious body in the hospital bed, she couldn't help but feel guilty. She should've protected him, been there for him, she shouldn't have let it happen. She grasped his hand tightly, her eyes watering slightly as she looked at his battered face, bruises and cuts littered all over his usually clear skin.

"He's gonna be fine, kid. Don't worry about him. It's getting late. Go home and get some sleep." Mr. Lizewski walked into the room, patting Connie on the shoulder.

The girl stood up, heeding Dave's father's words, wiping her eyes and sniffing slightly, "Let me know when he wakes up." She told him, her voice quivering slightly as Mr. Lizewski nodded, patting her on the back as he smiled at her.

Thankfully, Dave woke up pretty quickly after the attack, considering how bad it was. Connie was constantly visiting him after school while he was recovering, always stopping at different places to get him some food that wasn't some disgusting slop that they served in the hospital.

Of course, she always kept him updated with everything going on at school, which girls Todd and Marty were crushing on that week, about the fights that happened between girls because of petty drama, and of course, the fact that people at the school actually knew who he was now, not just one of the weird kids that was friends with the scary girl. The one thing she did omit, however, was the whole gay rumour. She considered telling him, but she decided against it, although, in hindsight, that was probably a bad idea seeing as though Todd and Marty were the ones who told her not to tell Dave.

Upon his return to school, Connie unconsciously planted herself firmly by Dave's side at all times, still feeling guilty about what happened, even though it wasn't directly her fault. She didn't want any of her friends to get hurt again, and although all three boys were equally 'weaklings' as Connie called them, she felt that Dave was especially vulnerable for some reason, even with his fucked up nerve endings.

So, as the two put their books inside their lockers that were conveniently placed right next to each other, she couldn't help but scowl and glare as Katie Deauxma — who was basically the most popular girl in school — actually talked to Dave, gaining his full attention. She knew girls like Katie all too well; she preyed on minorities, people who she thought she could 'help', people that were ridiculed by the rest of the school, and essentially make them her projects. So, with the gay rumour about Dave swirling around the school, Katie had found her new prey.

"Do you wanna, I don't know, hang out after school today or something?" Katie asked the boy, who attempted to splutter out a yes, before Connie stepped in front of him.

"Actually, Katie, Dave and I already have plans, so go find yourself another GBF." Connie snapped, slamming her locker door shut, causing Katie to gulp.

"Right. Okay. See you around Dave?" She offered to the boy, who looked down at the floor.

"Go." Connie glared at her, the brown-haired girl turning around as quickly as she could and practically sprinting down the hall, away from Connie.

"What the hell was that for?" Dave asked Connie as she turned around to face him.

"Dude, trust me, you don't want to get involved with Katie Deauxma. She only wants to hang out with you because she thinks you're gay." The pink-haired girl crossed her arms over her chest, looking up at Dave, who gaped at her statement.

"Gay? Why the hell would she think I'm gay?" Dave spluttered out, earning a chuckle from Connie.

"They found you naked in a parking lot after being mugged and beaten. People assume things."

"But I'm not gay!" Dave borderline yelled, earning a few disbelieving glances from people that loitered in the halls.

"I know that, but not everyone else does." Connie began walking through the hallways, Dave trailing along like a lost puppy.

"Gay. Unbelievable. I'm like, the straightest guy in the world." He muttered.

"Believe what you want, buddy."
