Boredom. This was the only word I could think up to describe this moment. Mrs Dalter couldn't have chosen a worse day to lecture the class about the French Revolution. I looked around the room; most everyone was either zoned out or sleeping. A select few were actually paying attention. Just when I was about to fall asleep, hidden behind in my hoodie, I felt a light tap on my shoulder. I turned my head back to see it was my friend, my only friend, Joanie. She was one of the outcasts of our school, like me. But she was a bit different than me. She was goth, and me? Well, I wasn't. I looked at her long black hair, pulled into a high pony. Her sheer black shirt, followed by a pair of black creepers, and some black ripped skinny jeans. She also had the classic black choker, and a shiny skull ring.
"Psst! Hey!" She whispered to me. "Did you hear about that party tonight, at Marsha Prices' house? It's supposed to be her, 'end of the school year' party."
"Yeah, I heard about it. Not like we were invited or anyt-" I was cut off by a Mrs Dalter.
"Is there something you'd like to share with the class, Ariana?" She called me out.
I turned myself slowly back around, even though I had my hood pulled up on my head, I could feel everyone in class staring at me. I slowly shook my head. Mrs Dalter stared at me for a moment before continuing her lesson. Just when I thought I couldn't be more embarrassed, I looked over to see Marsha and her other two bestfriends snickering, and shooting piercing glares at me. Marsha herself even held up an L on her hand to her head, and mouthed very clearly the word 'loser' to me. I shrugged it off, because in my hoodie, I felt safe from the outside world. It smelled of my room, home. It filled me with a homey kind of feeling, I felt at peace whenever I wore it. The small bell in the front of the class rang. Everyone got up, grabbing their books, jackets, book bags, etc. Some were even waking up the other that had fallen asleep. I grabbed my satchel bag and my backpack and began making my way towards the door. I took one step out the door,
"Ariana, can I see you for a moment please?"
I turned back around and saw Mrs Dalter, a rather displeased look on her old face.
"Please, will you next time refrain from interrupting my class?"
She looked at me, I could tell she meant business.
I nodded and walked back out the door. I looked around through the chaos of the crowded halls, trying to find Joanie.
"Hey! Ariana! Over here!" I heard her voice through the loud hall. There she was, standing by the bathroom door.
"Hey." I greeted her; she seemed ecstatic.
"It's finally summer.. Now I've got to go to my Dad's up in Wisconsin for the entire summer."
Joanie had been visiting her dad every summer since her parents had divorced.
"Ah, fun." I laughed and said sarcastically. "I will be doing my everyday thing, sitting around at home on the social networks." I could feel a twinge of excitement bubbling inside me.
Joanie, however, looking unamused. Her yellow eyes, not really yellow, just contacts, peered into mine.
"You should try to get out more.. You know, do stuff."
Joanie told me.
"Yeah, no.."
I said back, feeling almost hurt. She knew I was an outcast, we both were. I couldn't just go out and make friends, all I've got are my internet friends and her.
"Well, at least try." She said as we began making out way out of the front of the school, and towards our cars. We got to the parking lot, when I heard Marsha and her boyfriend, Josh. Josh was the football team captain. I also had a big crush on him; he is one of the different popular people. Everyone loves him, he's got the nice hair, the bright smile, and the very nice, tan body. He always seems to glance at me, and smile. I hadn't yet noticed I was staring at him, but Joanie sure did. She slowly came over my shoulder and whispered in my ear,
"If Marsha noticed, you're dead. You know that, right?"
This snapped me right out of my trance. Marsha and him were holding hands, walking to his truck. Marsha got in the passenger side. I watched as he looked over at me for about 30 seconds, and smiled. All of a sudden, I got a feeling of butterflies in my stomach. I've only ever gotten this feeling for him. As he started the truck, and drove past Joanie and I, I saw Marsha glare at me through the window. I sighed and got into the passenger seat of Joanie's small green Volkswagen. When Joanie started the car, out of no where I heard a loud scream. I nearly jumped out of my seat.
"Oh, sorry. I forgot I had a CD in." She said simply and turned it off, with a faint laugh.
I looked at the CD as she set it back in the glove box. It read 'Black Veil Brides'
We pulled out of the parking lot, and drove towards my house. Summer was finally here.
