“Demi, come and get your breakfast!” my dad yelled from downstairs. I heard the microwave start and cupboard close. With a groan, I slowly got out of bed. The sun made its way through my slightly open shades, making bright lines around my bedroom walls. Well, it won’t be my bedroom for long. I guess going to college is the first step to becoming an adult, claiming my independence. I’m finally getting away from everyone else in this crap town and any person in it who has ever put me down. I got out of bed and kissed the picture frame containing a photo of my mum on my desk. We’re on our way mum, I promise.

“Demi, hurry up!” my dad yelled once more.

“I’m coming!” I shouted back putting on my slippers and hastily walking down the stairs. As I got into the kitchen I smiled at my dad who was frying something.

“So, how do you feel bud?” he asked sliding some bacon onto my plate

“Good.”

“We’re going to leave in two hours so you’d better eat up and then go finish packing.” He smiled as I took a bite out of the side of my toast.

After breakfast I went upstairs to shower and pack. I changed into dark ripped skinny jeans, a grey tee and a checked shirt on top. I looked into my mirror and put in my nose piercing, I’d gotten it last year despite my dad’s wishes. After getting ready I packed up the rest of my wardrobe and placed my mum’s picture at the top of the suitcase. My dad came up to take two of my suitcases down to the car. I only had three, two for clothes and one for books, photo albums, electronics, chargers, CDs and DVDs.

I took one last look around my empty bedroom, this was it. It looked so empty; there was only my furniture left, no pictures or posters on the wall, no items on the shelves, no clothes in the wardrobe, only a few hangers. I’d survived the torments of high school, next was college. I’d gotten in with a full scholarship, which was convenient as my dad and I didn’t have much money as it had just been us two for a while. I finally closed the door to my childhood room and walked down the stairs to the car.

“You ready bud?” my dad asked as I put on my seatbelt

“As ready as I’ll ever be.” And with that we drove off.

---------------------------------------------------------

I looked outside my window as the car stopped. The campus was massive, definitely bigger than I had expected it to be. There were people walking around looking for their dorms and others reuniting with their friends from high school who had been lucky enough to go to the same school as each other. I unbuckled my seatbelt and got out f the car smiling widely. I can taste the freedom already. My dad and I took my suitcases out of the boot and walked over to a table that said ‘Freshman Dorm Assignments’.

“Hi, what’s your name?” an overly perky redhead behind the desk asked.

“Demi Lovato.”

“Nice to meet you. You’ll be over in the Pyke building over there,” she gave me a clipboard containing my room key and a map of the campus, “You’ll be rooming with a two other girls named Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande, don’t worry, they’re nice, trust me.”

“Thanks.” I said and my dad and I made our way towards the building. My dad gave me the speech about boys and how they are not to be in my room at any time and all that protective fathers stuff whilst I searched for my room. When we finally reached it we said goodbye.

“I’m going to miss you so much dad.” I said giving him a long hug

“I’m going to miss you too Demi. I hope you know how proud of you I am. And your mum may not be here, but I want you to know that she is watching over you and she is just as proud.”

“I know dad,” I smiled as he released me,

“I love you.”

“I love you too.” I said and I watched him walk down the hall.

I placed the key in the lock and opened the door. I looked around the bedroom. There where three beds, one was completely empty, the other had been already been moved into, neatly and the third looked like a bomb had gone off. There was a girl sitting on the neat bed.

“I hope you don’t mind me choosing this side of the room.” The girl said. She had long, curly blonde hair and was wearing a floral dress. She was tall. And pretty. And tall.

“You must be Taylor.” I asked as she walked over to me

“Yeah, I’m Taylor Swift”

“I’m Demi, Demi Lovato.” I said, holding my hand out for her to shake

“Cool name.” She smiled, walking back over to her bed.

Another girl came out from behind her closet door where I hadn’t noticed she was standing.

“I’m Ariana. I’m sorry about the mess; I’m just trying to sort out my stuff.” Ariana said.

I sat down on my bed and opened up my suitcase to start unpacking. We were each given one wardrobe, a couple of shelves, a desk and a bedside table. A silence fell over the room for a few seconds.

“Do you mind if I put on some music? Not that I don’t love this whole awkward silence aura we have going on here…” I joked

“I like you, you’re funny.” Ariana said, taking out some clothes in her suitcase to put in her wardrobe

“Sure you can put on some music.” Taylor chuckled lightly

I plugged in my speakers and pressed shuffle, and

After twenty minutes I’d unpacked most of my clothes books when there was a knock on the door. I opened it too find a girl with shoulder length light brown/almost ginger hair. She was wearing denim shorts, a black top and a leather jacket.

“Hey, I’m Miley.”

“I’m Demi.”

“Ariana”

“Hey, I’m Taylor”

“My roommate’s not here yet so I was wondering if you guys wanted to hang out for a while?”

“Sure,” I smiled grabbing my phone from my bed, “Taylor, Ariana, do you want to come with?”

“Nah, I still have some unpacking to do.” Taylor replied

“I’ll come” Ariana said putting on her cardigan

Miley and I walked around campus, looking at the buildings and the different people around. We decided to go to a near coffee shop as it was 2:00pm already. Miley looked for a place for us to sit and I went to order for us.

“Hey, what can I get for a beautiful lady like yourself?” the barista behind the counter said, making me blush

“Three coffees and one muffin and two brownies please.”

“Coming right up,” he smiled and after paying I sat next to Miley.

“He was so flirting with you.” Miley teased whilst I tried to hide a smile.

“He wasn’t.” I said but I had to admit he was pretty cute

“Here are your coffees and your muffin” the barista said and placed them on the table and put a folded piece of paper in front of me.

“We should hang out sometime.” He said and walked away to go and wipe down some tables. I opened up the note which it had his phone number and was signed ‘Nathan : )’

“Told ya,” Miley laughed, high fiving Ariana

“Whatever” I smiled, still blushing.
